Didn't see much of a thread regarding all the fine antics of Portland and the people who live there, so I thought to make one.

Lesbian bar shuts down one week after opening because they weren't woke enough

Doc Marie’s is a lesbian bar that opened on July 1st of this year with the hope of bringing more inclusivity to the city of Portland. But just one week after their grand opening they were forced to shut down because of complaints that the bar was not a “safe space.” Similar to the story I wrote a few weeks ago about the queer-owned cafe in Philadelphia that was shut down by employees for not being woke enough, Doc Marie’s was cannibalized by the woke mob.

The crowd on opening day was huge. One woman said that the line for entry on opening night was “wrapped around the block” with “literally 200 lesbians” waiting to get in.

But the excitement about a new progressive hangout dissipated quickly. Within days, Doc Marie’s found itself on the receiving end of accusations of not being inclusive enough for trans people and people of color. Despite mask mandates being lifted in Portland, patrons accused the bar of not implementing enough COVID safety measures. Patrons also claimed that Doc Marie’s had “culturally appropriative art” on the walls.
One TikToker, who says she attended the grand opening, breaks down the accusations against the bar:

Employees of Doc Marie’s created an Instagram page to echo these concerns. They claimed that the owners weren’t proactive enough in creating a safe space and accused the owners of racism. The employees also demanded that the bar host “free opportunities for education” for the community.

Eventually, the employees demanded the owners relinquish ownership of the bar and hand the business to them. The owners were given a “24-hour deadline” to adhere to the ludicrous demands.

Just five days after opening, the bar announced on July 6th that they had to close temporarily in order to address the cries from the woke mob for a “safe and inclusive space.”

Surrendering to the woke mob doesn’t appear to be working out in Doc Marie’s favor, as the bar remains closed with no public plan to reopen.

Fun fact: downtown is so nasty and unsafe there are record high levels of vacancy in several districts down there. This article from Willamette Weekly (our local super pozzed newspaper) blames high taxes while not using the word crime once.

The super high Multnomah county property taxes don't help, So many people are buckbroken and view owning property as a "wealthy" thing, so they happily vote yes on any public work funded by property taxes because that's like, just making the rich pay their share. Then this spikes rent and mortgages and business costs, people bitch about landlords but a lot of them - commercial or otherwise - are stuck with properties that cost more in tax than they can make in rent, and good luck getting the city to re-value the property lower.

Good luck explaining economics to one of these people though, they'll just scrunch their nose up and go "uhhh I think the billionaires will be fine". In their minds taxes are this thing that costs you like 5% of your paycheck but makes sure that there's free college for oppressed queer PoCs, or helps keep the parks clean, instead of a huge moneypit that's making your rent 50% higher in exchange for NOT keeping the parks clean because it's illegal to shoo the bums out so they'll always just be full of needles.

Recently I was chatting with some rando while we were both waiting for coffee, and when I left he gave me an anti-ICE observer whistle he had proudly 3D printed himself, and I had to fight to keep my face neutral lol.
That reminds me of the time a guy in Portland tried to personally shoulder the blame for the entire 2016 election. He comes up to me at a cafe, looking like he’s about to deliver news of a terminal illness, and just starts apologizing. I asked if he mistook me for someone else. Nope. He just needed me to know he was an ally and that he voted for Hillary. That was one of the weirdest interactions I've had in my life.

Damn, you really ARE the token ethnic. Sorry about that, I can call you a slur if that helps counteract it for you. Or I can be a super racist (by Portland standards) and treat you like everybody fucking else I ever meet. I know that sounds pretty fucked up, but I'm just a terrible person like that. I don't see a [insert skin color here] and immediately think of helping the poor, stupid, downtrodden, helpless, unlucky, homeless & jobless & non-sober little bastard that I know they must be. Even though I know they have no self-respect and would happily slurp up any apology or handout I so graciously decide to give them. Not anything too helpful, of course, I'm not going to let those dirty browns into my home, or feed them, or give them money, or help them find a job, or try to teach them about finances or anything like that to actually improve their station, I just want to have my superiority moment and continue about my normal routine. Without them, the perpetual underclass (born into that as they so clearly were), I wouldn't be able to feel so powerful AND moral in my daily life whenever I see one!

Anyway, what were we talking about? Diversity is our stength and I love Portland!!!!

You should try to have fun with people like this, though. I remember a story my father once recounted about an incident at work. A black guy walked up to a bunch of white people in the breakroom who had some Brazil nuts on the table. He comes up, picks up one of the nuts, and asks if anyone at the table knows what it is. Someone says it's a Brazil nut. The guy suddenly looks very serious and a bit angry. "No, what do you guys call these when I'm not around?" No one says anything, everyone looks terrified. After a few seconds of just letting it hang, he finally says "It's okay, we call them that, too", cracks a giant shit-eating grin, eats the nut, then walks away without another word. Masterful. Get creative, go out there and try to use your passive racial ability, even if it doesn't provide you with any tangible benefits it'll at least be really fucking funny to read.

How are you with pretending to be a SJW? Because if you can't at least smile, nod, and change the subject, you're going to have a really hard time making friends here. Recently I was chatting with some rando while we were both waiting for coffee, and when I left he gave me an anti-ICE observer whistle he had proudly 3D printed himself, and I had to fight to keep my face neutral lol.

Actually, even if you're a true-blue believer, I don't know how newcomers make friends (unless they're trannies and can roll up to Sanctuary and say "I'm new in town" and can instantly have a polycule). Maybe if you're a naturally affable person, it comes easy, but if you struggle making friends where you're at now, it's going to be a lonely road in Portland.
This shit alone is why I'm glad I didn't move up to that metro area last year. I could tolerate liberals for the most part and a lot of the ones I know IRL were fairly quiet about their politics during Biden's admin. But after Trump won, the media whipped them into a frenzy and every other day it was some new TDS narrative they were going on about. People like this exhaust me and I live in an area that's split 50-50 politically and our liberals aren't quite as insane as Portland's. Living in a city where the majority of the population is SJW would drive me insane real fast because my poker face doesn't last forever.

Also they'd probably view me with suspicion because I'm a non soyboy straight white male with no piercings, tattoos and my natural hair color.

It's really sad. Back in the day, and I mean DECADES ago at this point, Portland was still unfriendly but there was a lot to do and it wasn't a bad city to live in for the not-rich. You could go someplace like the Bagdad for a second-run movie, a pretty darn good slice, and a beer for like five bucks.
2000-2010 was still a pretty good run.

A Union Asks Lawmakers to Repeal a Ballot Measure the Same Union Passed at Great Expense

United Food & Commercial Workers Local 555 employed scorched earth tactics and big money to pass Measure 119. Now they want to kill it.

Summary:
  • moron union leaders try to pass a bill that makes it easier for people in the weed industry to unionize
  • the chair of the House Committee on Business and Labor says "no, that's a bad law as written"
  • moron union leaders have a melty and spend $300,000 of union members money on a recall campaign that fails 1 to 9
  • despite this, the badly-written weed industry labor bill passes the next year, after moron union leaders spend $2,900,000 of union members money to get it on the ballot
  • Trump gets re-elected and suddenly moron union leaders realize the Democrats are not going to be in charge forever
  • moron union leaders say the bill they spent nearly THREE MILLION DOLLARS PASSING could now be “weaponized against working people” and needs to be repealed
With union leadership like this, who needs the bosses? I really appreciate the Oregon Journalism Project for covering stories like this, ones that you'd never expect a paper like the WW to cover because they make Dems look bad.

Eh, despite being a lefty rag the Willy Week does commit actual journalism on a semi-regular basis, sometimes even taking down high-ranking city officials and governors like Sam Adams and John Kitzhaber. With the field of potential targets being so overwhelmingly Dem, they can't really avoid it.

Hot take: "otters" is a better mascot because it's more recognizable. A "pioneer" is just a human in a specific outfit, but you can say "otter" and people have an idea what it looks like. And there are "you otter XYZ" puns that fit well on shirts.

Dumb reason to change but it's an improvement. If this were a city or county changing its name, I'd be upset thinking about all the paperwork, but eh, college sports.

I don't know what's going on but it makes me think of this thing from 2013

About two months ago or so right before the Renee Good shooting they ran a December or January issue with ice skaters on an ice rink tying up ICE agents who look like cartoon villains. I really wish I could find it because local leftist antifa types literally stuck it all over the city (gone now) but it's nowhere to be found online. Can't even find it on their Instagram page which has many of their covers.

I remember thinking after the Renee thing happened "wow, this is exactly the type of shit that caused her to think she could just try and run over a cop and get away with it"

If I recall correctly, the student was actually writing about sexual assaults on campus and how they were allegedly not being addressed. She mentioned the logo in the context of basically "why are we focusing on redesigning our sports team logo to be more threatening when there are bigger issues at hand". The redesign itself was also apparently unpopular and lots of people preferred the older one, maybe she was trying to use that to push her message and just fucked it all up.

Surprised that it lasted as long as it did considering the college is in Portland.

It's a good microcosm of the entire corrosive attitude that's way too prevalent in Portland. You can tell these people were offended first and found a reason for it afterwards, like they instinctively recognized that they were supposed to be upset by the idea of a pioneer and had to figure out why.

That last one is just perfect, "should be intrinsically more inclusive and unifying", what does that mean exactly? The implication is that pioneers are what, only white evil colonialists? The spirit of discovery is totally opaque to the swarthoid mind? It's an answer from a kid who wasn't paying attention in class and the teacher called on them, and they bunted by saying something generic that sounds thoughtful; notice how they tacked on "intrinsically" to sound smarter?

All the anti reasons are just vaguely asserting that white man is bad for diversity, because colonialism an sheeeiiit. All the pro reasons are specific and relevant to the mascot, school, and/or region of the country and its history. And in it's place you get an otter? Do black people empathize with otters more than pioneers? They can't even swim!

he WW to cover because they make Dems look bad.

They really don't need to cover it, everyone who knew it was a bad idea knew this was the only and inevitable outcome.... the ones who DO need to see it? Will just dismiss it out of hand as "didn't really happen like that" and continue their retardation, sadly.

Nor the collapse of their industries or cities, they just chalk it up to "Subverted by non-unionists and Orangeman" and move to someplace better off than their burned-out burg, and try again... and again.... and again...

Only the unbribable hand of The Reaper will rid us of the kind of geniuses that do this.

This is absolutely great! A really good example of why unions are obsolete and dangerous.

The leftist dream of doing nothing while a heckin' brave taco person does all the work is alive in Portland
