Knowing that Ian was always deep down a gigantic faggot ruins it all for me. I can't take what he says seriously in old content cops because I know that's the same guy sobbing in therapy about how people were mean to him online. Re-watching his old stuff, especially content cop through a modern lens, has made his old stuff age like milk for me. I can really point out the insecurity in his body language throughout a lot of it. It felt before as if he was being ironically awkward as part of his humor, but with what we know now, he was really insecure about coming off as funny and it shows. It's very noticeable in the collabs with his old friends, how uncomfortable he looks and how his words don't flow naturally. He always looks like he's extremely tense. He was just able to edit his awkwardness in a funny self-deprecating way that made you think he had self awareness. We gave him too much credit, he was a spinless pussy all along.

Idubbz was cool at the time because he was one of the content creators making intentionally offensive videos during a time when "SJWs" were starting to take over the platform and Internet in general. SJW in quotes because it was the buzzword for the same people censoring shit now but it was particularly bad at that time. It was when Tumblr trannies were learning how to flex their muscles.
That was when every week there would be a major creator getting canceled for saying something slightly racist then making multiple apology videos and entirely changing their content. Ian was part of a subculture making fun of that and fighting back against it. It was never anything that amazing but entertaining enough. I think the reason so many people say they miss the old idubbz is because YouTube content was just so much better overall. Even I miss opening YouTube and seeing whatever idubbz and Filthy Frank on the front page compared to click bate and body cam videos today.
