I get what you're saying, but I think maybe you're criticizing the SS implementation and not the whole concept of the Social Contract. The notion of "a society owes its elders who helped build it" is a sound one. We should care for our elders, partially because they built what we have and partially because we want our juniors to care for us when we're old. Why else would someone spend their life working knowing once they're not useful they're just going to get dumped in a ditch?
