Arizona investigators probing the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, “TODAY” co-anchor Savannah Guthrie’s mother, said Monday they believe she was taken from her home against her will.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos previously described Guthrie’s home as a “crime scene.” She was taken “possibly in the middle of the night and that includes possible kidnapping or abduction,” his department said in a statement.

Guthrie, 84, was last seen Saturday night in her home outside Tucson. She has limited mobility and needs to take medication daily or “it could be fatal,” Nanos said.

She had no cognitive issues, and her disappearance was not linked to dementia, he added, describing her as being “of sound mind” and “sharp as a tack.”

Guthrie’s family reported her missing around noon Sunday, setting off a search-and-rescue mission that included trained personnel, drones, an airplane, a helicopter, volunteers and search-and-rescue dogs lent from U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

“I think she was abducted,” Nanos told NBC News. “When you’re taken from your bed and you don’t want to go somewhere, that’s an abduction.”
Nanos said officials believe Guthrie was harmed when she was taken, but they did not provide other details.

“We know she was harmed at the home, but we don’t know to what extent,” he said.

Nanos has not provided additional details about the investigation. He has said investigators “saw some things at the home that were concerning to us” but did not offer specifics.

The community was devastated by her disappearance, Nanos told NBC News.

“This is just really sad for our community,” he said. “Savannah is family to us. She’s a big part of this community. Her family is devastated, the entire family. And you know, this just doesn’t happen in Tucson.”

Nanos confirmed that law enforcement officials are reviewing video from cameras at Guthrie’s home, where she lives alone and employs staff members. He urged neighbors to “go through their Ring cameras.”

Nanos asked members of the public to contact the sheriff’s office at 520-351-4900 if they have information about the case.

“I need this community to step up and start giving us some calls,” Nanos said.

Guthrie is described as 5 feet, 5 inches tall, weighing 150 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. Her family last saw her at home around 9:30 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. Saturday. She “is not in good physical health,” Nanos said.

Authorities are not aware of any threats against Savannah Guthrie, who is in Arizona. The FBI is aware of the case.

Monday’s broadcast of the “TODAY” show opened with an update on Guthrie, with co-anchor Craig Melvin calling it a “deeply personal story for us.”

In a statement reported on the air, Savannah Guthrie said in part: “I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers, and messages of support.”

“Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear mom,” she said in her statement. “We thank law enforcement for their hard work on this case and encourage anyone with information to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department at: 520-351-4900.”

Savannah Guthrie has frequently discussed her close relationship with her mother over the years.
“She loves us, her family, fiercely, and her selflessness and sacrifice for us, her steadfastness and her unmovable confidence, is the reason any of us grew up to do anything,” Savannah Guthrie said in a 2022 tribute to her mother on her 80th birthday.

In a Mother’s Day tribute on Instagram in 2024, Savannah Guthrie described her mother as “God’s first, best and most important gift to me.”

Guthrie’s father, Charles Guthrie, died when she was 16. She is one of three children.

Place your bets, now.

My money is on Keith Morrison. He was no longer content with being the GOAT true crime narrator and decided to get into the game himself by pulling off the biggest ransom case of the 21st century. And who better than his NBC colleague Savannah Guthrie's elderly mother? Think about it.

If watching too many true crime YouTube interrogation videos has taught me anything it's that there's never a kidnapper. There's never a home invasion gone wrong. It's always a family member who thinks their master plan of murdering Grandma and blaming it on a kidnapper or robber is the perfect crime.
I remember that reporter glitching out when interviewing Trump before the 2020 election. She was asking about his supporters believing the satanic pedo pizzagate conspiracy and wanting him to denounce it and he wouldn't cause he said he didn't know enough about them or something.
Her old Co-host was that guy who had the rape button in his office. Also she was born in Melbourne Australia where I'm from, no way her family was up to any good if they were doing business with the elite of Melbourne.
I was wondering if all this had anything to do with the Epstein files.

She should hire Mel Gibson for a consultancy role, if she doesn't want Gibson involved then we can know for sure she doesn't want her mum back.

When’s the last time yall heard of a non-cartel-related, kidnap-for-ransom case that occurred in America? True crime buff here and I can only think of one that’s occurred since I’ve been alive.

Other than the JonBenet Ramsey ransom note I can't recall any right now. And they found her in the basement. She never left the house. This case is just bizarre.

I still think her brother killed her in a tard rage fit of jealousy and the parents covered it up.

Ramsey was picture with Ghislaine Maxwell sometime before her death.

Watch entire thing. I thought you were going to post this, because this looks more a hit than a kidnapping.

Edit: I thought you were going to post this for other comedic purposes. Nothing comedic with a hit or kidnapping.

When’s the last time yall heard of a non-cartel-related, kidnap-for-ransom case that occurred in America?
Or one where they didn't get a ransom demand or communication for the first few days? Plus no direct communication with the family, only two emails to media sources that were unanswerable?

No proof of life is explainable by Nancy dying shortly after the kidnapping. But the complete lack of communication for days is bizarre if this was done for ransom.

If they were unknown kidnappers panicking over a dead body, why reached out at all? It would be an unforced error if they'd got cold feet about the whole thing.

We know this was preplanned by someone familiar with the property, since the cameras were disabled in an organized fashion. There was a ransom note that apparently contained info that wouldn't be known by a random person. But is there anything else that says "kidnapping" instead of "murder and ditched the body"?

Guys you need to stop trying to make it make sense based on the info we have now. It’s pretty clear that public disclosures are being heavily influenced by the various random demands and other shit they haven’t yet told anyone. The whole thing will only make sense once it’s done and all cards are on the table.

I’m still betting on Tomasso being involved. Best theory I can come up with;

Using a “friend” he had her removed from the home and murdered. He was counting on all the scammers and criminals sending ransom demands thanks to her being the mother of a famous TV host. This is why there has been no proof of life or any real communication from “kidnappers”. She wasn’t kidnapped, she was just murdered.

Tomasso figured the media spotlight would ensure all kinds of whackos try to send ransom demands or take credit for the kidnapping. It would help take the heat off him and keep LE busy on wild goose chases.

The only ppl who benefit financially from her death are Tomasso and Annie. Savannah and her brother are both extremely successful and have plenty of money. Annie and Tomasso, otoh, lived a far more humble lifestyle. Annie and Tomasso lived a nice upper middle class life, but that was probably thanks to Nancy and Savannah subsidizing a hefty chunk of it. The house they live in isn’t thanks to a school teacher salary. Nancy’s death would mean a financial windfall for Tomasso and Annie.

I think you had some jealousy and resentment brewing. Look at Savannah and Cameron’s life vs Annie who stayed in Tuscan and married a wanna be rock band guy

I’m sure the FBI are closely looking at financial information and what Tamasso has been up too since he magically appeared in Tuscan 20 years ago. But given the stakes involved and the media spotlight they need to have an airtight case.

I’ve almost felt like the family videos they’ve made pleading for their mother have been done to convince Annie and Tomasso they don’t think they are involved and really believe there are kidnappers out there.

I cant really figure out if Annie would have any knowledge of the crime or Tomasso kept her in the dark. If he is arrested she will obviously claim she had no idea. (Honestly it would have been ideal to keep her ignorant of it all to ensure she is authentic when speaking to authorities and her family. Also means she would pass polygraph tests too)

Real kidnappings aren't like the movies where there's a plan
Real kidnappings are colossally stupid, because there's practically no way to get away with that shit. Even if you get $10M and the victim never sees your face and you somehow manage not to leave an absolute shitpile of evidence everywhere you go, what the fuck are you going to do with that kind of cash?

You can't put it in a bank. You can't hide it. You can't really travel anywhere with it, especially by air. Anywhere you do go, at some point local law enforcement will take notice of some random idiot with millions in cash in small bills living the good life with no real documentation or legitimate source of income.

Kidnapping is the get-rich-quick criminal enterprise of total retards.
I’m still betting on Tomasso being involved. Best theory I can come up with
this is the most plausible theory I've heard yet

fucking bummer if true

Imagine seeing those photos and knowing this is how your mother died.

It was a style for a while for Mexican men to get their eyebrows sculpted. It's long been a style for Mexican men to have a big mustache. But I've never seen a guy with both at the same time, and the highly plucked eyebrows on men trend is long dead. It's weird.

I find it extremely strange that he was prepared enough to have a
1. Mask
2 . Backpack
3. Gloves

And the dressings of a somewhat prepared robber/kidnapper.But for some reason, he was entirely unprepared for the ring camera(very common these days btw).........

If you were planning this, wouldn't you buy the most generic possible clothes at Walmart? Why not wear the 8 dollar long sleeved black tshirt, black jeans and those cheap black tennis shoes that low wage restaurant workers have to wear? His jacket is distinctive enough someone might recognize them combined with his eye shape.

If he's smart, that mustache is fake. But he doesn't seem smart.
