A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

I can get how it could get depressing. But the way I see it, I'm not bothered by posts saying all men are rapists or sex pests. I know that's not me, so I just let that flow off like water off a ducks back. Good guys know who they are, and at the same time I don't want to go to bat for the shits amongst my ranks anyway.

A man has been charged with a string of sex attacks against women and girls in south London, with some dating back to 2003.

Adebayo Adeyemi, 58, has been charged with 33 offences, including rape and sexual assault, alleged to have taken place between 2003 and 2019.

The charges include six counts of rape, an attempted rape, an assault, 21 counts of sexual assault and four indecent assaults, the Metropolitan Police said. All five of the alleged victims are female.

Adeyemi, of Dartford, Kent, was first arrested on October 20 2020, the force said. He is due to appear at Bromley Magistrates' Court on Monday.

Not necessarily... there is a scenario whereby 'General By-Elections' can take place.

I'll explain...

Labour currently have 404 MP's, but if the majority of them quit the party or the whole party was nuked from orbit somehow (9/11 type attack on Parliament etc. - unlikely but you never know) then if Reform UK won the majority of these seats then he or Zia (more likely to be Nigel) would become PM as leader of the largest party.

As proven in 2010 and 2017, you don't need to reach 326 seats in order to become PM, but it would mean that Kemi Badenoch becomes Deputy PM.

This would, however, only be a short-term arrangement as within six months a General Election would have to be called, as the country elected Starmer in 2024 and therefore he had the mandate to govern. The electorate did not elect Farage and Badenoch, but they would be allowed to say if they wanted Farage to continue as PM or whether they want Davey, Polanski or whoever.

General Elections are for EVERY seat - even if 659 seats were up for grabs (ignoring the fact that the Speaker makes up the 660th) it would not be considered as a General Election, even though the result could change the political dynamics of Westminster.

The last time there was a slew of Labour MP's leaving the party was, ironically, 10 years ago under Corbyn when 16 MP's quit in three days. There were, also, the seven who quit Labour in 2019 to form Change UK (yeah, them... not sure if anybody remembers). Depending on how they feel about Starmer, or if worse is to come, it's possible (perhaps not likely) that some of them will quit and stand as Independents in order to either force Starmer into changing his ways or to bring down the Government if they feel that is the only way to get the message through.

Could Labour MP's quit and form their own 'New Change UK' or a new Socialist Party if Corbyn's party is deemed too far Left even for them? Well, the recess is coming up and it will give Starmer time to decide what his policy will be and also those plotting to remove him will be sharpening their swords.

At this point, anything is possible.
