You have a better chance of getting a house by becoming mentally retarded and getting on the housing trust list now days than actually finding a place with reasonable rent let alone being able to buy a place.
Rental prices increasing massively every year with only 6 month leases so they kick you out as soon as its up and raise the rent to match the overly inflated market.

Last year it was a ten year waiting list for social housing in Brisvegas, but I wouldn't be surprised if the time hasn't doubled by now. Even "urgent" applications were being faced with a two to five year waiting list.

What the fuck is going on. This move to destabilise entire fucking continents all over the world is just madness.

I can sympathise mate, I was in Melbourne until 2019.

When the average house hit $1m in Preston I thought I'd never buy. We ended up paying $450k for a little house in the Macedon Ranges, then made the switch to a huge house in Gippsland in 2022.
If you can work remote or have a practical skill (a trade) there's work out here.

There's very little I miss about Melbourne, and a lot I like where I live. It's not perfect, but nowhere is anymore.

“While forensic testing is yet to be completed, a pathologist has reviewed images and confirmed the remains are human."

Jarrod Boys, a volunteer search team member, said he stumbled across human remains, about two-and-a-half hours into the search.

Ms Cremer was 31 and travelling in Tasmania as a backpacker when she disappeared during a bushwalk near Philosopher Falls in June 2023.

No joke, I am considering moving because of family stuff and the only thing really keeping me here is the fact my rent is almost half the price of what it would be in the shittest parts of Adelaide for a worse house.
I live in a 2 bedroom transportable from the late 70s so its not big or modern but I cannot bring myself to pay upwards of $450 a week for a place like this when I am only paying $350 for a larger space.
And this shitbox is on the lower end. anything actually livable is at least $550
