I like how in his own summary for his own book he admits, "everything in this story happens for no reason."

The Kino Casino reacted to the chicken scene and it just read like, "This happened, and then this happened, and then this happened," without giving the reader any reason to care about the characters or be emotionally invested in the story, other than what was described being gross.
