Even if you view Marx as purely a philosopher, his philosophy is so out-of-touch with reality that according to certain Marxists, “real communism has never been done,” despite so many nations adopting it throughout the twentieth century. They keep moving goalposts, and justify doing so because Marxist theory is so broad that even Marxists can’t agree with each other on who has done “real communism.” The Communist Manifesto ends with this utopian idea that everyone will have equality, and because that ending hasn’t panned out, Marxists will claim that “it isn’t real communism.” Marx’s philosophy has to be based in some form of reality for it to work, and because it isn’t, it’s why any nation that has tried it has failed. (No, the Nordic countries don’t count. They have a mixed economy that recognizes the need for free markets, which is antithetical to Marxist thought).
