A federal agent shot and killed a Minneapolis motorist when she allegedly tried to run over law enforcement officers during an immigration crackdown in the city, authorities said Wednesday.

The Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer shot the woman in her vehicle in a residential neighborhood in Minneapolis, Department of Homeland Security spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement.

Video posted online showed the vehicle crashed in a residential neighborhood. The shooting drew throngs of angry protesters to the scene in an area that is the latest target of the Trump administration's immigration crackdown.

Follow live coverage of the shooting from MPR News in Minneapolis.

There was a large presence of federal and local officers, yellow police tape and cars that had been in a crash in the residential neighborhood. Gregory Bovino, a senior U.S. Customs and Border Patrol official who has been the face of crackdowns in Los Angeles, Chicago and elsewhere, was among the group.

“We are aware of a shooting involving federal law enforcement near East 34th Street and Portland Avenue. Please avoid this area,” the city government said on X.

In a scene similar to the Los Angeles and Chicago crackdowns, bystanders didn't hold back in venting their anger, blowing whistles, taunting the federal agents.

“Shame! Shame! Shame!” and “ICE out of Minnesota!” they loudly chanted from behind the police tape, referring to Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

After the shooting, Mayor Jacob Frey said immigration agents were “causing chaos in our city.”

“We are demanding ICE leave the city and state immediately. We stand rock solid with our immigrant and refugee communities," Frey said on social media.

The area where the shooting occurred is a modest neighborhood south of downtown Minneapolis, just a few blocks from some of the oldest immigrant markets in the area and a mile from where George Floyd was killed by police in 2020.

“We’ve been trying to live life as fully as possible in light of the fear and anxiety that we feel,” said the Rev. Hierald Osorto, pastor at St. Paul’s-San Pablo Lutheran Church, which has a predominantly Latino congregation in the area.

The Immigration Defense Network, a coalition of groups serving immigrants in Minnesota, held a training session Tuesday night for about 100 people who are willing to hit the streets to monitor the federal enforcement.

“I feel like I'm an ordinary person, and I have the ability do something so I need to do it,” Mary Moran told KMSP-TV.

The Department of Homeland Security said Tuesday that it had launched an extraordinary immigration enforcement operation, with 2,000 agents and officers expected in the Minneapolis and St. Paul area for a crackdown tied in part to allegations of fraud involving Somali residents.

>Literally died engaging in harassment & blocking of ICE to save bulbheads from their house of fraudulent cards collapsing on them
>Supposedly has even been arrested by the local cops the day/a few days(?) before for her activism, but has since been let go

Lol yeah sure, and I'm the Emperor of Japan. Wish ICE had domed this other rugmuncher for good measure, too.

Trying to use a heavy vehicle anywhere near an officer that could even slightly be construed as trying to run them over does though. If you don’t understand the legal system heavily favors law enforcement taking action in these instances you have not been paying attention. They have been giving broad leeway time and again.
I know it heavily favors them but I've seen officers lose their jobs where they completely misunderstand the situation, you don't discharge your firearm. The officer positions himself very poorly there and even then the car is clearly angled away from him. It's a mistake sure, but that's all I said in the first place. Leave with pay until the investigation is concluded, deadly force is not justified there, he's misread the situation.

“I purposefully spent my time actively trying to interfere with a federal operation, ignored requests to stand down, and attempted to flee the scene in a vehicle with people standing nearby/in front of the vehicle. Truly I am completely innocent in all of this!”

Yes, it’s an absolute terrible thing that she died and it should not have happened, but like…don’t fucking do stupid risky shit if you don’t want the results of said stupid risky shit to happen.
I can think it’s a tragedy that she got killed, but laugh that it’s basically that Austin Powers henchman skit. At every possible opportunity she chose the most retarded option. If she did in fact get arrested the day before by ICE for obstruction/ impeding and Minneapolis PD just released her with no charges than it’s just a dark comedy.

There are potentially hundreds of billions of dollars being stolen by a foreign community that are too retarded to cover it up. The state and city government are likely involved. This lady decides that she’ll lay down her life because of whatever retarded reason because at every level the State of Minnesota and the City of Minneapolis decided to encourage retardation.

Devoted Christian living in sin, married to a woman.

I'd say the ex-husband has no clue who his ex-wife was. There is a reason they are EX married.

No, driving the car forward into a person standing there is.
Now fuck off, you are repeating the same false cope take.
The car isn't driving towards him though, that's my point. It clearly is angled away from him, it's a mistake from the officer.

That doesn't justify deadly force.
resisting arrest, evading arrest, reckless driving, and endangering officers in the process gets pretty close to putting you in 'danger to the public, menace to society' territory
how serious it is depends on the circumstances of the individual case, using deadly force to stop something like this can definitely be reasonable depending on the details of the situation

Its not. She steps on the gas the first time when the wheel is still turned left.
You can see wheelspin because of the wet ground, clearly showing that she has not only put the car in drive, but also heavily stepped on the gas at this point to the degree an automatic car spins its wheels.

The car was 100% moving in his direction. Anyone claiming differently is coping and sniffing the NBC glue factory.

Yup, and you can watch it over and over, the wheels spin out on ice, she was TRYING to go faster but couldn't because of the ice. I'm not implying she was trying to murder ol' boy, but it's clear as day WHEN THE TIRES SPIN OUT they are DIRECTED STRAIGHT AT HIM NOT TURNING.

Why would she be turning the wheel away from him at all if her aim was to run him over?

Son, how many times have you been in situations in anyway similar to this one to be talking about ‘poor positioning’ or ‘justification’ based on the actual legal definition?

I've long been tired of lefties wanting to play pretend revolutionary punk while getting upset when the cops retaliate. They want to feel tough while law enforcement stands there and let themselves be assaulted and freak out when they dare to detain them. I don't cheer that this woman died, it's just so pathetic and pitiful that this is the reality we live in.

if she really abandoned her husband and 3 kids to become a dyke then im not even going to sugarcoat it. she got what she fucking deserved.

Nobody said she was trying to do so. Intent is irrelevant in this case. Nobody can look into her head.

"Timeout! Are you trying to kill me, yes/no, quick I need to decide if I shoot and kill you!"

No, if he scared of getting ran over he would have just stepped to the side. That's the human reaction. Reaching over and shooting the driver doesn't even neutralize the threat of the car, as we can plainly see in the video the car is accelerating long after its driver was shot.
