A federal agent shot and killed a Minneapolis motorist when she allegedly tried to run over law enforcement officers during an immigration crackdown in the city, authorities said Wednesday.

The Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer shot the woman in her vehicle in a residential neighborhood in Minneapolis, Department of Homeland Security spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement.

Video posted online showed the vehicle crashed in a residential neighborhood. The shooting drew throngs of angry protesters to the scene in an area that is the latest target of the Trump administration's immigration crackdown.

Follow live coverage of the shooting from MPR News in Minneapolis.

There was a large presence of federal and local officers, yellow police tape and cars that had been in a crash in the residential neighborhood. Gregory Bovino, a senior U.S. Customs and Border Patrol official who has been the face of crackdowns in Los Angeles, Chicago and elsewhere, was among the group.

“We are aware of a shooting involving federal law enforcement near East 34th Street and Portland Avenue. Please avoid this area,” the city government said on X.

In a scene similar to the Los Angeles and Chicago crackdowns, bystanders didn't hold back in venting their anger, blowing whistles, taunting the federal agents.

“Shame! Shame! Shame!” and “ICE out of Minnesota!” they loudly chanted from behind the police tape, referring to Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

After the shooting, Mayor Jacob Frey said immigration agents were “causing chaos in our city.”

“We are demanding ICE leave the city and state immediately. We stand rock solid with our immigrant and refugee communities," Frey said on social media.

The area where the shooting occurred is a modest neighborhood south of downtown Minneapolis, just a few blocks from some of the oldest immigrant markets in the area and a mile from where George Floyd was killed by police in 2020.

“We’ve been trying to live life as fully as possible in light of the fear and anxiety that we feel,” said the Rev. Hierald Osorto, pastor at St. Paul’s-San Pablo Lutheran Church, which has a predominantly Latino congregation in the area.

The Immigration Defense Network, a coalition of groups serving immigrants in Minnesota, held a training session Tuesday night for about 100 people who are willing to hit the streets to monitor the federal enforcement.

“I feel like I'm an ordinary person, and I have the ability do something so I need to do it,” Mary Moran told KMSP-TV.

The Department of Homeland Security said Tuesday that it had launched an extraordinary immigration enforcement operation, with 2,000 agents and officers expected in the Minneapolis and St. Paul area for a crackdown tied in part to allegations of fraud involving Somali residents.

“I purposefully spent my time actively trying to interfere with a federal operation, ignored requests to stand down, and attempted to flee the scene in a vehicle with people standing nearby/in front of the vehicle. Truly I am completely innocent in all of this!”

Yes, it’s an absolute terrible thing that she died and it should not have happened, but like…don’t fucking do stupid risky shit if you don’t want the results of said stupid risky shit to happen.

The only way to settle this once and for all is to give the butch dykewife a glock and leadfoot a Suburban at her. It is her moral imperative to abstain from defending herself and become a hood ornament. I'll be cheering on her honorable sacrifice ✊

It really is well past time for this dumb leftoid shit to start finally having consequences for them, they've been doing this shit in the U.S for at least a century. All of this 'cute' shit. Sitting there with a smarmy fucking grin: "Oh, you're trying to enforce immigration laws? Well, guess what? I'm going to park my car right in the middle of the street or obstruct traffic with my big fat ass! And you can't do anything about it in front of a hundred cameras! Ain't I a big stinker?! Teehee!" Usually skirting around the letter of the law or playing gay 'I'm not touching you' fuck-fuck games.

It's quite viscerally satisfying when one of them does this smug doe-eyed bullshit and gets shuffled off of this mortal coil as a result, all because things didn't go as they planned. This woman had apparently been doing this shit for weeks and it was reported that she'd almost been scooped up for it at least once in recent days, but got out of it somehow. She probably thought after this one, she'd just drive off, go home, and relax with a box of wine with her bull-dyke girlfriend to celebrate another 'victory' against the Gestapo. I'm looking forward to the kid gloves being fully off and watching these retarded Bolsheviks get their brains scrambled with batons, which we need to bring back.

I always thought this tactic of protestors trying to "weaponize" cars at political protests was going to lead to something really bad happening one way or the other. Its always been a rather stupid and dangerous tactic. Sooner or later, it was going to lead to someone on either side being killed. Someone getting dragged or hit by a car was as a likely as someone getting shot.
Pretty sure the left wants people to die so they can try to stop deportations with flash riots in the future.
I thought it was interesting that both her mother and ex-husband described her as "non-political"
I've noticed this as a common theme and I have a different take. I don't think she was radicalized by her wife or if she was, it was minor and she was already looking to be more left.

Ive noticed that people (not always on the left) will simply hide their political feelings around people close to them (or people they can't avoid) if they don't agree. Often others simply think they are non political because they aren't investing effort into it.

The fact she ended up abandoning two families speaks to her deep dissatisfaction with her surroundings.

I'm leaning that way, too, but the situation is ambiguous. I suggest watching the slowmo video. The officer is directly in front of the vehicle, on the driver's side. The vehicle then accelerates directly toward the officer. The officer draws nearly instantly. Nearly instantly, the vehicle begins to turn right, and I can't tell whether it's still on a collision course. Nearly instantly after this, the officer fires.

I've seen speculation that the lurch forward might have been that while attempting to turn right, icy road conditions caused one or more of the 4WD's wheels to spin and so she might have been intending to turn from the start.

In any event, intent probably doesn't matter. Officers are not expected to be mind readers. What matters is whether it was reasonable under the circumstances to treat what was going on as a deadly threat, and it was.

They didn't arrest her for being illegal anyway. They arrested her because she had been actively obstructing them all day and the previous day, and had been detained for it the previous day, too. The corrupt Minneapolis police let her go. If they'd actually done their jobs, she would still be alive.

I suspect the shooter lost it after she almost took him out with her SUV and shot instinctively. He wasn't in danger when he shot but he had been, less than a split second before.

I see lots of lefties screaming about the direction of the wheels. That's fucking stupid because the shooter was upright, not lying on the ground. He can't see where they're pointing. He sees hateful woman driving her SUV at him and he reacts instantly.

Maybe the shooter is not entirely innocent but this fucking cow caused her own demise and she should be up for a Darwin award. She's blocking the street while her dyke-in-crime is out recording in the hopes of getting some juicy footage for BlueSky or some other lefty-dominated social media space. Well, they got their wish. The juiciest footage of the year. Good job! Hope they're happy.

Weird, the NYP pulled a story quickly after posting it. It stated the wife's name is "Rebecca Good" which means they probably were married given the surnames.

It also stated the wife worked as a handy man, or had a handy man type business, that she used to run in Kansas City. They said the business name was B. Good Handy - which I think might be wrong because I can't find anything about it. Seems like they got some details wrong and pulled the story. I was getting ready to link and archive and it already went poof. Probably will return once they can do better fact checking.

But they were reporting the wife's name was Rebecca Good and she ran a handy man type of service. Given they used to live in Kansas City I'd say it's safe to assume Renee met her while living back at home with her parents.

"These people" who are you talking about? I'm not who you think I am, all I said was it's not a justified use of deadly force.
Driving a vehicle into a person is use of deadly force.
Shooting the driver of such vehicle is just.

They will do a big parade about investigating him, and then charges will never be filed because no reasonable jury would think this unlawful when presented with the actual facts, not the distorted leftwing retardation.

So far I have heard from lefties that:
1) He was pointing the gun at her the entire time
2) He shot her when the car was not moving
3) The car never moved until he shot her
4) They never told her to get out of the car
5) They told her to leave

The bullshit narratives around this, which are all debunked by actually watching the video, are amazing.
People have adamant opinions about what happened because they saw a clip on their favorite lefty media site, gobbled up the opinion piece and narrative, and never even tried to verify the claims by watching the actual video themselves.

This was clearly the fault of ICE! She had turned her wheels but the slippery icy roads caused her vehicle to slide towards the heroic law enforcement officer. Be careful out there with all the ICE it is deadly especially the BLACK ICE!

These people, meaning people who use that arguement.

Since when is driving at someone not considered a violent action? She put herself in that situation right? At the point she tried to flee, she was being lawfully detained.

What do you think would have been a more appropriate response then?

Yeah bringing up random shit that has nothing to do with me, not a leftist, not making the argument you're saying I'm making. Not justified to use deadly force, she didn't drive the vehicle into him at all. You seem to be hallucinating. The ICE officer should be put on paid leave, he made a mistake and the incident needs investigating.

That doesn't justify deadly force.
Trying to use a heavy vehicle anywhere near an officer that could even slightly be construed as trying to run them over does though. If you don’t understand the legal system heavily favors law enforcement taking action in these instances you have not been paying attention. They have been given broad leeway time and again.

I'd say the ex-husband has no clue who his ex-wife was. There is a reason they are EX married.
Didn't I read on here that she'd been previously detained by ICE for trying to blockade them, but MPD refused to arrest her and press charges?

Yeah, I'd say he had no idea who his ex-wife was
