You can think of it as an extension of welfare at this point that is only given to the most useless in society (and im not talking about disabled people). Most people I see on NDIS have fuck all wrong with them, and complain about minor things like "my knee has some pain" or are just really fucking fat and refuse to lose weight. Tons of (primarily women) self diagnose autism/bpd because they notice some small "quirk" and and suddenly make it their whole personality, get absolutely 0 pushback from health professionals who are scared to lose their license, and in return get full NDIS payments from it which they then flaunt on social media while acting out their quirks to try and convince others "I really do have autism guys look at how quirky I am". Meanwhile, I see full mentally disabled australian kids who actually need NDIS and will never get a chance at living a regular life get rejected by some 50 year old HR karen because "sorry it's really tough at the moment we can't make room for everyone". Even the people who do need it and get it are often being taken advantage of by a carer who is pocketing 95% of it.

The only reason they haven't gutted 99% of it yet is because it's gone on for so long now, it's proping up the entire economy alongside property, and a large % of the population (probably >50%) would be financially ruined if the government just randomly stopped giving them money for doing absolutely fucking nothing. As is the case with all of society, you best enjoy catering to the lowest common denominator because that is who gets priority over you, the hard working tax payer.

It says a lot about our society that I go down to the recycling plant to drop off cans, and see mentally disabled people working their asses off there who got rejected from NDIS still trying to do something positive for society and always with a smile on their face despite their limitations. Then you go on social media and see the others with nothing wrong with them complaining that their NDIS payment isn't enough. Funny how these people's "limitations" like their bum knee or "fear of social situations" disappear the second they go and attend some shitty protest that no one else cares about because they're all busy working.

There are people who get NDIS funding and have full time jobs. I used to work with a guy who required full time care due to MS but could still work because while he couldn't use the bathroom without help he could do a desk job. You can be eligible for the NDIS but not eligible for the disability support pension.

The NDIS needs to be completely stripped down and focused on supporting people with major mobility issues for basic needs so they can function in society instead of ending up in a nursing home at 50.

I have no doubt disabled people enjoyed and got benefit from the Scuba gym, but is it really something your tax dollars needed to have be funding? But someone one day came up with the idea,, applied and started doing. Got funding. Provided services before someone eventually went, why is this on it?

I agree for city kids it's pretty fucked. The neo-feudalist project seems to be in full effect.
Out here in the country though, it does seem a little more hopeful. Lots of kids I know have jobs, one 17 year old just started with AusNet on about $70k a year, and I know a bunch work at Coles, KFC etc. Maybe it's drilled into them at home, or maybe they know that they need to save for a car (city people don't even think about cars in my experience), but they're all keen to work.
Obviously, houses are cheaper, and generally speaking, they aren't wasting money on nightclubs and fast fashion bullshit. When your idea of a good weekend is drinking beers around a campfire, you can save a bit of money.
I'm sure a downturn is coming, but we seem to have less migrant dole bludgers out here, and chances are they'll be slow to arrive, because nothing happens after 9pm on any given day. Also, there's not the "white guilt" horseshit that infests the cities, if you start some shit, it will get finished.
