I forgot how fond the British are of men dressed as women and vice versa. But it used to be as comedy (men dressed as women do indeed make Cinderella's ugly sisters, ugly). And at least in Peter Pan's case, a woman is probably the right height for portraying an adolescent boy, and without all those pesky safety concerns for harnessing up a child in a theatre flying apparatus.

I'm surprised a tranny hasn't taken up a cause against pantos that have cross-dressing. Maybe it's too niche an issue but "our gender is not your costume".

Oh, believe me I know. Both the published fiction and fanfiction version aren't realistic. But the troons and poons keep thinking what they consume in fiction whether it be from the written word or from a visual medium is how it should work in real life without any inkling that isn't how the real world works.

Basically in the Victorian era, it was a way to look
at a woman in tights without being seen as a pervert, and now the “principal boy” is traditionally a tomboyish woman.
 
Having women play young male characters is pretty normal across a lot of acting mediums. Easier to work with, and you can keep the same actor on board for longer—a thirteen year old boy will outgrow the role in a year or two, but a woman can play it for much much longer.
 
Usually I think of "cutesy" as being a sarcastic or sportive adjective,

The reason I think it's a piercing is because he gave her several earrings and a nose ring bridge too. Very tumblr. It could be something creepier, but corset piercings are usually a BDSM weirdo thing so it is creepy either way imo.

Brite was a successful author, but in 2010, the same year she announced she was transitioning, she also announced she'd retired from writing (and she hadn't written much for a few years anyway). She's had a single short story published since. So while she's a major figure in fujo literature - pretty much all her stories are about tragic prettyboys having decadent gay sex - I don't know how inspiring trans men would find her actual life, since coming out as her true self also seems to have meant giving up a writing career and just flogging her art on Etsy. Instructive, yes, but not inspiring.

Here's one of her paintings, "Slenderman 3," and one of her sculptures, "Knocking On Heaven's Door". They look like something a kid would bring home from a goth elementary school.

I thought pantos were seasonal anyway - and/or don't have original runs lasting years - so it hardly seems a justification.

Lead roles for children are hardly overflowing so I don't think women should colonise them, frankly.

Most people will never have seen it, but 'Strangers with Candy' is so late 1990s-early 2000s outrageous I'm astonished that Colbert was never cancelled for it after he became a multi-kazillionaire by appealing to the basest mindless leftists who constituted his late night audience. Then again, he never said anything that wasn't in lockstep with that audience so they had no reason to try to bury him.

This was a show that began with a pilot episode where the main character is tasked with smoking out a 'gay retard', where the main character has a Filipino friend to whom she says she's sorry she missed his party where he sacrifices coconuts to his monkey god, and where she finds out her real mother might have been native American who of course had a relentless problem with the 'fire water' (liquor).

I fucking hope that not only does Sedaris not apologise, but that she doubles and then triples down.
