The perspective looks strange there because... his paintings are objectively bad in a technical sense.

He hasn't chosen to use one point perspective or a very strange three point, he doesn't know what he's doing because he doesn't know or grasp the techniques involved. It could actually be kind of neat if he was doing it intentionally, making it just wrong enough to give you a headache looking at it, but you can extend his edges and it's simply not the case that all his lines secretly follow some profound artistic subversion and he is an unrecognized genius. You can tell what he's tried to do and you can tell he doesn't know he's failed at it.

He does have pretty good detail work, which is why a lot of people don't immediately recognize his art kinda sucks since he clearly spent some time painting everything to his satisfaction, but you're not going to have a groundbreaking art career as a photorealistic greebling painter when Kodak just came out with a very popular consumer-grade camera that costs a dollar and doesn't do weird nonsense with how objects are placed and oriented in space and captures all the little nurnie details with minimal effort. (It's not real art. The machine does all the work.)
