The way elections are now is not adequate. I’d love for a President Hegseth, but the way our system stands now, the election would be overwhelmingly rigged (like 2020), or he will be murdered (like Kirk), or he would sell us out (like Trump).

I view it more as their experiences shaped their worldviews. Heinlein had a positive experience with the military, as well as living in post-war America which saw WW2 veterans come back home and lead the country to economic prosperity. Verhoeven's childhood in war-time and post-war Europe would have shaped him to view any positives of the military with disdain. Each of them have a blind spot on the points the other is trying to get across.

I think that in order to get a full understanding of the message behind Starship Troopers, one has to read the book and see the movie. The book incapsulates an American mindset of volunteering patriots stepping up to take on leadership roles. The movie is a European critique of excessive militarism on society.

Some interesting news coming out of Spain today.

Back in 2024 there was a Russian oil tanker that had a "mysterious" engine failure then a explosion just as it crossed into international waters off the coast of Spain. It barely made the news as ship accidents happen and a Russian tanker catching fire is not a shock.

So why then am I posting this news? Well it has now been confirmed by the Spanish government to be carrying a feeder type nuclear reactors. A feeder reactor creates weapons grade materials from used fuel cells, it's a strict verboten type of technology to transfer to less advanced nations obviously. Due to some local environmental scientists reporting a surge local toxicity the Spanish government sent some divers and ROV down to check on the wreck and discovered the true cargo.

The ships destination? North Korea.

So yah I'm 100% sure this ship sunk due to Russian neglect and not a CIA oopsie.
