one of the reasons the home cooking discussion goes off the rails is that there are two different currents involved. The first is tied up with a lot of snobbery and class stuff and makes people jerk their knees about that - Null can't even discuss the euro-mutt cheese disparity without triggering this. But the second is just about mechanical stuff like eating healthy and not destroying your budget and not funding jeets. You don't have to make a chicken thigh stew every night. It's fine to eat scrambled eggs and some carrot sticks, or to make a huge amount of chicken stew and freeze it, or *eat a fucking sandwich that you made yourself.*

I know you're not going to like hearing this but it is perfectly fine to buy fast food for a family gathering, especially if it allows you more precious time to socialize after being apart for a long time. Doubly so when dietary restrictions and picky eaters are considered.

But it's Subway. You could have made your own super-loaded sandwiches at a fraction of the cost without risking your family's health, and as was previously mentioned, have your family close by helping while socializing and doing something meaningful together. Could have gotten chips or insta mac and cheese for sides, or even made a quick salad or loaded baked potatoes. It would have been more sympathetic if the fast food was something like KFC or pizza, but...Subway?

My wife and I have our two younger teenagers each cook dinner once a week (with our help, if needed) to make sure it’s a skill that they have. There was some complaining at first but now they kind of enjoy it. They get to pick the meal, and at this point they look online for new recipes rather than just copying our existing ones.

there's a lot of evidence that shows that we should not be putting women on the front lines, look at what it does to unit morale when female combatants die during operations, look up pregnancy rates, and look up how many females use me too bullshit to move up the ranks. look up just basic hoofin'-it-with-your-gear numbers for men vs women.

women should only be serving in the military as aides and medical staff, there should be NO front line positions for women at all, not because i hate women, but because i love them, and it hurts me worse to see a dead woman than a dead man. because a pregnant woman can't fight for 9 months. because it isn't the right JOB FOR WOMEN TO DO.

The cynic in me suspects this is just another autistic elaborate scheme to get ‘legtimacy’ (i.e. a bank account). It didn’t work with the charity, it won’t work this time. Just another poorly thought out idea that won’t get far off the ground.

I have a friend who's fairly close to being in charge of the civil service of one of Minnesota's urban counties.

A while back he told me that "they" (not him, but the people even he calls "they") were warned a few months ago that the Somali fraud news was coming, so they shuffled all the most guilty parties diagonally upward—from management of one department to higher management of another—to scuff up the evidentiary trails any investigation/prosecution might follow.

I don't know why that would work. I can make something up that makes sense, but fundamentally I don't get it. He thinks it's a flawless move, as far as thwarting the feds, and he'd probably know.

He doesn't share my opinion that the feds—not Trump guys but the people who do the everyday work—don't want to investigate this and are looking for any excuse to throw up their hands and say there's no evidence, and a little shuffling of personnel gives it to them (and rewards the perpetrators, incidentally).
