Anybody have a link for the fights tonight? Actually a decent card tonight, really looking forward to the Matias fight.

I had it 5-5 going into the 11th but Crawford poured it the fuck on and looked fresh, while Canelo was looking gassed by round 7. Crawford is 100% the GOAT of the 21st century next to Usyk, but Canelo has not looked like vintage Canelo since the end of the GGG trilogy. I thought Crawford would win after watching the Scull fight but always had the thought in the back of my mind that Canelo would be motivated enough to turn back the clock and pull out a legendary performance. He just doesn't have enough left in the tank after twenty years. I can see a scenario where he humors Jake Paul for one last payday to be honest.

Bro, Canelo won't be on Paul's level if Paul beat Gervonta. Noob.

I don't remember if I mentioned it before but I'm trying to achieve enough competence in jump rope as an adult novice to go to the boxing gym. What got me on it was square dance, because I was somebody who all my life had no physical intelligence/athletic inclination, and then after learning square dance I found I had improved massively. Things like moving fluidly/gracefully, knowing at a glance whether somebody (square dancers are almost all old people) would be able to swing or if I needed to just take their hands. When I sat in on the boxing gym I saw that they seemed to spend a huge chunk of time on jump rope, something that can be done anywhere and is full-body near-calisthenics, and I felt like I could actually see, analytically, what was going on. Economy of motion (the strike doesn't have any bullshit behind it, you just do it), pivoting about axes as part of this, the same bent knees and balls of toes and rhythmic moving (if you stop moving your feet you become rigid) that square dance benefits from. I'd also dabbled in fencing twice, and this is essentially that with no sword.

As I understand the lead strike is basically a light attack, the rear strike (pivot with the hip) is a heavy attack, the jab is a basic attack, the hook is a counter to them guarding their face, the uppercut is a short-range knife fight and defense is generally done by pivoting to move the head out of the way.

My progress on the jump rope was awful. Inconsistently doing it. I felt like I needed to learn it properly or the gym would be a waste of money, but at the same time, wasn't invested yet. I figured the jump rope would be a worthwhile staple exercise, my main exercise, regardless of if I liked boxing. I got a lot better after switching to asphalt but then found it destroying my shins. Now I bounce on the balls of my feet - like springing - and bought good athletic shoes and that seems to make it a lot better. Tonight I actually fell into a natural rhythm for a while, enough to notice.

Jump rope is fucking horrible. I remember buying a jump rope when I started training again after a loooooong break. I remembered how easy and run it was as a kid. A lasted a couple of seconds before gassing out. It does take a lot of practice to get good and improve your cardio for it.

You're onto a excellent start by identifying your footwork as important. It's overlooked by most beginners who think it's just about walloping things really hard with their fists. Mine sucks, but I'm training mainly as a form of cardio and fun.

Learn to wrap your hands and look after your hands. Get a decent pair of 14oz or 16oz gloves (depending on your size/weight).

Don't be conscious about sucking. Every sucked when they started, 95% of boxers are the best people you can meet. Be humble and listen to them. Avoid the 5% who are heavy duty criminals and/or treat technical sparing light a fight to the death.

There are plenty of good resources on YouTube. Avoid any shouty alpha male types. I like Tony Jefferies.

I created a thread that's about actual training as I thought this one was more about watching. It's a bit dead at the moment but hopefully there's enough people into the sweet science to get it going. https://kiwifarms.st/threads/boxing.229696

On a tangentially related note - I knew a guy who learned how to tapdance in order to become better at playing double bass on drums. Really worked well for him too.

On a more direct note - Lomachenko has an extensive history of dance before he went into pro boxing, and his footwork is renowned.

Absolute fucking embarrassment for everyone involved. AJ played with his food to be a gentleman and Jake looked horrific. Let's not do this grading on a curve because he was fighting AJ. A cruiserweight looking to make a name for himself will not be this kind. The morale victory bullshit that I'm hearing right now is fucking pathetic and faggotry.

Jake got his running shoes on for this one. Doing some MMA ass running and double legging for this one. Really that last shot that he claims "broke he jaw" seems like the only serious head shot AJ threw with venom.

Commentary was atrocious and predetermined to save face.

Commentator: "He's so brave for taking an asswhipping for 90 million, no one else would do it."

Me: "Hold my beer!"

Anyone would take an aswhipping for generation wealth. Holy fuck I hate people.

Hundreds of journeyman boxers catch the same type of beating Jake took every fucking weekend and they get a hot dog and a handshake for their troubles.
