That moment in the VP debate when Walz told the story about his son witnessing a shooting at a basketball game, clearly meant to be a GOTCHA moment, backfiring spectacularly with Vance's extremely human and compassionate reaction SHOULD have been the warning against trying to pull that kind of shit, but it never stops being funny that all the media midwits STILL don't realize Vance is too quick-witted and too down-to-earth to be tripped up that way.

By trying to trap him into looking bad, they feed him opportunities to look more and more like a true statesman and a man of the people.

Walz actually thought that he was going to make JD Vance drop the facade, and the "Oh fuck" moment is when he realized that unlike Trump, Vance doesn't have a facade.
The guy is 100% legit and that's what the Democrat party and most politicians don't understand about someone like him. You can't make someone look phony if they are being genuine. Everything about JD Vance is genuine, so when they try to go all in on him, he doesn't even need to deflect it like most politicians do. He takes the accusation head on and whether he was wrong or right he speaks his mind and gives a reason.
It's one of the reasons that the loony leftists on places like Reddit and Twitter hate the guy's guts so badly. They want to LARP as Communists and they know that their gender identity is as fraudulent as their politicians.
They are FRAUDS, and the people that they vote for are FRAUDS. Every time JD Vance speaks, and takes accountability or tells the truth, he reminds them that they are frauds. Reckon that must sting like a mother fucker.

Between that moment in the debate and the famous "Do you even listen to yourself?" moment during the interview when he was asked about the TdA-occupied apartment complex in Colorado, Vance really connected with a lot of voters, especially more moderate ones, simply by saying things a normal, everyday human being would say in those situations. He doesn't suffer fools, but isn't obnoxious about it. He simply calls out insanity, and that resonates when people are wondering how the lunatics got in control of the world.

That is another thing that scores a lot of points with people, even when he's a little bit irritated he doesn't act like a dick about it. He simply changes up his tone a little bit and looks at the interviewer like they're on fucking walkabout.
It's almost like he's giving them an unspoken "Seriously? You really want to go down this road? I'm giving you an opportunity to back out of this I think you should take it."

Even deeper, he brings a, for lack of any other word coming to mind that fits, merciful way of dealing with idiots.

He's unquestionably a very smart man, but the calm, somewhat disappointed tone he takes on when slapping down stupid statements and questions, makes it clear he could be ripping these people a new asshole with ease, but he doesn't WANT to.
 
Everything Vance and Miller say seems perfectly tailored to appeal to me, is this what it feels like to be pandered to? I've never experienced this as a white man
