It's not so much being able to afford children it's calculating the odds that you can raise a child to grow up to be normal. Not a single child of any of my peers is normal, they're all afflicted with some degree of modern crazy. It seems to me impossible to avoid that without going full Amish.

Ive been watching that whole thing play out in the entertainment/fandom/work space with shit like Dr who and many IPs just completely loosing all cultural/monetary value. I have kids, and they’re not grown up yet so I can’t attest to the legitimacy of this, but my theory is that after a stable home without unnecessary trauma, the next best thing you can do is try to impart some work ethic by not actually caving and giving them their reward regardless of their having not completed their chores, that type of thing.

Another factor would be social/intellectual stunting from the coof lockdowns/peak woke.
