I bought the Gamecube near the end of the generation and it surprised me how quickly I've ran out of games to play on it, I think I've had it for like a year and a half before I decided to sell it. I went through most of the popular Nintendo titles and some of the most popular third party ones like Resident Evil or Rogue Squadron and then everything that was left was either really hard to get or not worth the price.
I could have derived more enjoyment from the console if I decided to mod it but it seemed like such a hassle that I ultimate decided against doing it. The modchip was pricier than the ones that PS2 had, I lived in a small town so there was no one who could mod the console for me, I'd had to fuck around with the mini DVDs which were harder to find and pricier than regular burnable DVDs or I'd have to spend more money on a special case that was able to handle regular cds (and looked like shit) and I've seen couple of guides mentioning that recalibrating the laser in the drive was almost a necessity because by default the laser was too weak to read most burned discs. And all of this for what, first party games that I can simply buy second hand or the lackluster third party games that are sorta shitty while the PS2 owners get to enjoy games like Metal Gear, Silent Hill, GTA or Shadow of the Colossus? Fuck that.

I had 20-30 games for it. Sure, a PS2 would have been better in retrospect. But I had no trouble finding something to play. With the N64, you had to convince yourself that Hybrid Heaven wasn't dogshit.

The GayLube is the moment when Nintendo went from being the guys who made multiple genre-defining titles each generation to being the guys who remade OoT 47 times and drop a fresh Pokoman in the toilet bowl twice a year. The only good 1st party game on GC is F-Zero GX, and Sega developed it. It also sold like five copies to the console's install base of gay retard babies. Remember, whenever you mention a decent Nintendo franchise, you have to append the phrase "never sold well".

Don't forget the first Metroid Prime, which made Yoshio Sakamoto furious because it outsold every previous Metroid except maybe the first one, and fans started seeing Retro as defining the IP, so he took Metroid away from them completely and made Other M.

And we all knew how that ended. The gameplay was solid, but the story was all over the place. Samus acts like a dainty flower, but she executes enemies like a cold-blooded bitch.

Not the retail release. I want to play it, but supposedly this version has lots of problems.
I have never seen any version of DD2 not run like complete ass.
even at release I knew that shit was "play this in 5 years when it's fixed" kind of deal.
both pirates and paying customers will have to suffer dogshit performance

But agreed on moral pirates being fags. Aside from the odd case where paying is impractical/impossible, just own up to wanting free stuff
Will understand the people that unironically get mad at people for emulating like 30 to 40 year old games that the companies themselves aren't even selling. I understand authenticity and if you can find something like a SNES and some games for cheap then go for it but it's ridiculous how they want people to pay for these things over and over and over on new consoles.

Why is it anytime a Western dev makes an at least decent game using a Japanese IP, people always make up fan fiction about the Japanese devs totally being assmad about getting shown up? We have this here with Metroid, people insisting Miyamoto hated Donkey Kong Country, people saying a Sonic Mania 2 wasn't made because some japs at Sega were mad that Mania was better than modern Sonic games, and probably more, and none of it has any actual proof it happened.

treating paying customers like criminals because people who never were going to buy the game might play it for 20 minutes,
Lots of internal data shows that adopting even basic antipiracy protections increases software sales.

In this case, it's because of how many "the Retro games have Samus totally wrong, she's MY vision, and I'm NOT mad" interviews Sakamoto did.

VIDYA GAMES SHOULD BE BANNED!
I get curious about censored video games in specific regions. Sometimes, they add or change the code a bit to remove some graphical elements or even remove content outright. The fun comes into whether they have to release a special version that is region locked for consoles. If your console is region free, you could theoretically play more than one version of said game.

I remember there being a Retro interview about how they intended to actually make a game where Samus the bounty hunter, hunted bounties to the genuine confusion of their Japanese bosses. Sometimes creators don't know what to do with their own creations

To clarify this:

It's dumber than you can imagine. This is part of why I say Japs create cool characters by accident a lot of the time.

I recall the director of Devil May Cry 5 Hideaki Itsuno actually praised the reboot and even incorporated ideas from that game into DMC5.

This is mostly bullshit. There's been a some talk of this from other guys at Retro and from producer Tanabe in the recently released artbook. While there was some back-and-forth over what Samus being a bounty hunter meant exactly, it wasn't why the idea of her going on bounty hunting missions was rejected. It was because the guys on the Japanese side thought the idea was too far removed from Prime 3's core idea of Samus getting corrupted to be more like Dark Samus, and that Retro was only thinking it up because they were trying to ape other open world style games at the time hoping it bump sales up from the lower sales Prime 2 got.

It probably explains though why Prime 3 has multiple planets you have to fly between in a disconnected way unlike a normal Metroidvania. It's probably holdover from ideas of having Samus fly around on missions to be more open world-like before Nintendo told them stay on track with focusing on Dark Samus and the Phazon stuff.

Sakamoto also talked about Samus being a bounty hunter in a really old interview, and he basically said that does bounty hunter stuff but we don't see it in-game because it's not relevant to what's happening in the average Metroid game, and if he wanted to make a game about it it'd probably have much different gameplay structure.
