How the fuck are you supposed to identify this guy? This is Bigfoot-tier. I thought there were 1000 cameras around campus?
An important lesson to learn and keep in mind at all times: surveillance equipment is
never used for the safety or benefit of anyone besides the entity that installs it. Those 800+ cameras at Brown are not in place to protect students. They only provide evidence to allow Brown to suspend, expel or otherwise sanction misbehaving students after-the-fact. No crime in progress has ever been stopped by their surveillance system (and that's pretty much true everywhere, with very rare exceptions).
Every time someone is victimized in a public place that's under surveillance or in a private business (like Walmart, Target, a casino, etc.), it takes an act of god to get the footage for prosecution or litigation purposes. In fact, private citizens harmed in private spaces have to sue first and convince a judge to issue a subpoena to force the owner to furnish the footage. Otherwise, when you ask, you'll get a "lolno fuck off."
You'll note on YT with all those juicy crime videos, it's almost always police body cam footage or interrogation footage (because that stuff is public record anyway). The only time surveillance footage ever becomes available is post-trial when said footage has been entered into evidence and becomes public record subject to FOIA or other formal request to a government entity or court. They almost
never post privately-generated video footage capturing a crime independent of a court case, simply because the fucking assholes running all that shit never cooperate. "Company policy," you see. Protecting corporate assets, not you.
Source: ex-wife got smacked around at Caesar's Palace in Vegas back in the early 2000's and security laughed in my face when I asked for their footage to help ID the perp. Cops weren't interested either. Surveillance
never protects you. It can only ever be used against you. Unless you put some up yourself and are kind enough to furnish neighbors with footage when your stuff catches some fucker messing with a neighbor's house. You can only hope for the same courtesy in return.
