Ten people, including one shooter, have been killed in an attack at Sydney's Bondi Beach on Sunday evening, NSW Police have confirmed.

A second shooter is in police custody, and is in a critical condition.

Eleven other people were injured.

Two police officers were among those shot.

A suspected improvised explosive device (IED) has been located and is being dealt with by the bomb squad.

In an update just before 9pm, police said the operation following the public place shooting which unfolded on Campbell Parade about 6:45pm was ongoing, with the number of casualties "expected to change".

"At this time, a further 11 people are reported to be injured, two of which are police officers," they said in a statement.

Earlier in a post on social media, police called it a "developing incident", urging people to avoid the area.

"Anyone at the scene should take shelter. Police are on scene and more information will be provided when it comes to hand," they said.

"We are still asking people in the area to take shelter until we can determine what is happening."

Emergency services are at the scene, including more than 25 resources made up of medical teams, ambulances, helicopters and special operations units.

There is no information at this stage about the target or nature of the shooting, but a Chanukah by the Sea event was scheduled to take place near the children's playground from 5pm, and had begun.

NSW Ambulance said they were treating multiple patients at the scene and have transported six to St Vincent's Hospital, three to Royal Prince Alfred and two to St George.

Vision from the grass area at the beach shows a frantic and horrific scene with multiple people lying on the ground injured as paramedics work on them.

People can be seen running away from the area, others have got bandages on their head while other people are covered in blood.

'It was panic'

Randwick resident and former journalist Elizabeth Mealey said she was having dinner in the Icebergs restaurant when they heard shots ring out.

"We thought it was fireworks, but it wasn't. It was something much worse," she told the ABC.

"People started running right up the beach. It was panic and the panic spread to Icebergs and people are standing around still not knowing what's going on, so it's scary."

She said she could not see the shooter, but it sounded like it was coming from somewhere near to the Bondi Pavilion.

"It felt like it took a long time to hear a siren, we've got a helicopter coming in now and ambulance is arriving, it's pandemonium, and we really don't know what's happening."

She said she saw people running from north Bondi to the south end to get away from what they could hear.

"We did hear what sounded like another type of gunfire, eventually which we were hoping and assuming it was police shooting back.

"And after that, it went a bit quieter but still kept up, but at this point, we are assuming it's over, but no one really knows.

"It's terrifying."

ABC deputy head of communications, Sally Jackson, was in North Bondi when she heard about 20 shots fired and saw people running from the beach in their swimmers.

She said women and their children were knocking on gates and asking to shelter at nearby homes.

"There was like Jewish women and children, incredibly distressed, very, very distressed and scared, who went upstairs to the bedroom here and stayed here until we could arrange for family members to come and pick them up," Ms Jackson said.

In a statement NSW Premier Chris Minns urged people to follow the advice of authorities.

"The reports and images coming out of Bondi tonight are deeply distressing," he said.

"We will update the public as soon as more information becomes available."

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese described the incident "shocking and distressing".

"Police and emergency responders are on the ground working to save lives. My thoughts are with every person affected," he said in a statement.

Speaking at an event in Jerusalem, Israeli President Isaac Herzog spoke of the shooting, calling it a "very cruel attack on Jews" during a special community celebration.

"Our hearts go out to them. The heart of the entire nation of Israel misses a beat at this very moment, as we pray for the recovery of the wounded, we pray for them and we pray for those who lost their lives," he said.

“We repeat our alerts time and again to the Australian government to seek action and fight against the enormous wave of antisemitism which is plaguing Australian society.”
MOD EDIT: This post has been updated with the latest known information. See this post.
There is 2 shooters.

Full footage of Naveed Akram shooting and aftermath. (post by @lowkeyl0ki)

0:32 - One of the terrorists goes down the stairs. The other terrorist remains on the bridge firing his weapon.
2:56 - The remaining terrorist on the bridge briefly goes down the same stairs and starts firing. He runs back up to the bridge afterward.
3:36 - The terrorist who initially went down the stairs first comes back injured and limping. He starts to fire his weapon alongside the other terrorist.
4:31 - One of the terrorists gets shot and goes down from it. The remaining one returns fire and constantly ducks for cover.
5:13 - The cameraman says, "Fucking die, cunt, die!"
5:45 - The remaining terrorist gets shot and goes down. But he returns, only to get shot again, and goes down for real this time.
6:36 - On the left side, bystander A is seen walking up the stairs to see the condition of the terrorists.
6:45 - Another bystander with white clothes is seen alerting the police to the location via hand gestures.
7:00 - The bystander A, who was walking up the stairs, is now holding up his hands, but he suddenly ducks on the ground after a shot is heard.
7:08 - A police officer arrives on the scene. Bystander A, who is now at the site of the bodies, still has his hands up high.
7:13 - Suddenly, another bystander runs up the stairs and starts attacking bystander A, who still has his hands up. Probably mistakenly thinking he is a terrorist.
7:27 - A fight ensures, the police officers try to break it up. The bystander A gets detained by the police officers.
7:37 - Despite that, more bystanders start to attack bystander A. The police attempt to break this off.
7:45 - Bystander A gets released, and he walks away and then goes back to argue? One of the bystanders takes his shirt off. In the background, the police officers attempt to break off people from attacking the downed terrorists.
8:11 - Bystander A finally goes away this time. The police officers get more bystanders away from the scenes.
9:21 - Shirtless bystander starts to charge towards the downed terrorists. A big scuffle happens, and it's unclear what exactly happens.
10:20 - A bigger crowd forms around the site, more sights of people fighting with the police.
2 minute footage of the shooting (along with drone footage and other POVs, uploaded by @chiobu). 10 seconds in, one of the shooters (unidentified) gets stopped by a passerby:

Later, the hero would be identified as Ahmed El Ahmed, a 43-year-old Muslim father of 2, and a fruit shop owner from Sutherland. He is currently being hospitalized for his injuries. He is expected to make it.

Some more footage, mainly focused on the unidentified shooter (post by @Ivalice):

Footage of the 2 shooters laying arrested on the floor:

High quality footage of one of the shooters:

Authorities say the attack left at least 12 people dead and dozens injured in what is being investigated as a targeted assault on a Jewish event. Naveed Akram practiced Islam (The Al-Murad Institute is an educational institution in Sydney that provides tuition for Arabic and the Quran):

My heart goes out to the people who got shot. Even if you have a grievance serious enough to shoot people over, you should always be targeting those who wronged you, not some random innocent bystanders who probably condemn that which you condemn, and weren't involved regardless. The pissing match over Jews and Muslims in this thread is stupid; you can dislike, disagree with and condemn Jewish influence in White nations without thinking that random Jews (and a little kid) deserve to get shot for it. I also find it a bit of a white pill that another muzzie disarmed one of the attackers, and apparently even caught a couple of rounds in the process; I wish all Muslims were like that. I am glad this guy is about to become hood rich.

I am horrified that the cops stood by for 20 minutes and let an unarmed civilian stop the massacre in their stead. Every officer that stood by should be charged for dereliction of duty, and stripped of their badge and their pension, at the very least for letting this happen. I can not believe that a police force that arrests people for mean tweets for "the greater good" would let a madman slaughter a bunch of innocent people like this. But even more wild is that the cops suspected these guys were terrorists, but still let them get firearms licenses. What the fuck is the point of limiting firearms to restrictive licensing requirements if you'll give some foreign terrorists the licenses anyways? Might as well just have gun vending machines if it's that fucking easy to bypass the "common sense" gun control.

This whole situation is fucked up. I hope someone is held accountable for allowing this to happen, but I can not help but doubt that.

The absolute balls on that motherfucker who grabbed one and took his gun. Just wish he’d have used it on the cocksucker so at least one of these cunts could get what they deserve.
That's the tragic part. The australian government would've almost certainly found a way to imprison him, or spit on him in contempt

I'll bet you anything this was a directive from higher up.

Fucking shady as.

How would it work here in the US? Grab a gun like that you've seemingly stopped the threat and are no longer in danger.

Cop can shoot in certain cases where a guy runs and it's reasonably sure he's going to kill people (this slime does doesn't he?) I think but could a civilian do that in the case of stopping the (possible) continuation of a terror attack? And if not by the law, would there be some "letting it slide because public interest" thing happen starting with the cops? da? or a judge?

I saw the video but it just looks like the shooters were randomly shooting people, not targeting jewish people

Also is this Bondi beach a public beach? It doesn't seem right or fair that jews use it for their religious celebration. I mean is this really about the jews being targeted or are these people making it about themselves again?

The video I saw doesn't fit this jewish attack narrative. A random terror attack? Yes. Targeted against jews? No

Why wouldn't it be alright for people to celebrate something publicly? Is it really that different from doing tai chi in a group or having picknick or celebrating a beach wedding?

Because the beach is for everyone to share. If you want to celebrate on a beach, get your own by getting a cottage by the lake or ocean.

I don't think it was targeting against jews as stated by the media because I'm sure others were there.

Y'all can label my post as dumb but watch the videos and look at the narrative of the media. They do not line up. It's not targeted towards jews

Gun laws are state-specific, NSW have some retarded ones like the appearance bullshit but I haven't heard requiring 2 safes?
Also, what handgun ban?
Otherwise yeah it's not too difficult for the average person to get a licence for longarms.
By two safes i mean you need a safe for ammunition, seperate to the guns. Most owners buy safes that have a seperate locked compartment in their safe which also meets the requirements. But yeah there's probably state specifics im unaware of, but WA for instance is pretty relaxed.
After the 2002 monash uni shooting (chink shooter) they reviewed handgun laws and bought back handguns. This will be the third mass shooting in Australia that has strengthened gun laws. Really make you think.

The Australian government are quietly celebrating an opportunity to clamp down on the freedoms of all over the actions of two. They hate Jews just like everyone else, but they say things with their mouth to the contrary.

My heart goes out to the people who got shot.
Haha, your byline is "TOTAL FAGGOT DEATH". Shut up you hippocrite.

The Australian media has an assured double Christmas bonus as they are going to masticate on this for at least a week. They hate the Jews also, but they can't say it outright. Instead they gleefully cover the pro-palestinean march across the harbour bridge.

There is going to be endless talk about " what is to be done," to which the answer is "nothing, it's too late, take the L as it were and resign, Albo."

But you know, nothing will happen in the end. They might try to ban thinking about the swastika. BTW, the other big recent Australian news was the underage social media ban (which I would have supported) and it's related in terms of how tone-deaf the government is. On everything. They didn't ban discord and they want to fine the social media companies instead of the parents. Good luck with that, fellas.

They were specifically targeting jewish individuals at an event to celebrate Chanukah.

Bondi Beach is a huge beach frequented by many different people including tourists. Its not just the actual beach that's referred to as "Bondi Beach."

Bondi and the surrounding eastern sububs of Sydney have a large jewish population.

Bondi Beach is the location for many public events including Carols by the Sea, festivals, performances, markets.

You sound fucking stupid and its clear you have no concept or understanding of the location youre trying to comment on.

Sometimes I feel like we're in the they live movie and only some of us got sunglasses. The event was repeatedly signaled as happening mid december for a year, by people like laura loomer. It happens on the first day of hannukah. Police is so unresponsive that it seems they have some kind of stand down order. You even have a guy who was also present at the 7 oktober attack and both his selfie and the tv interview have a cinematicly perfect look of a bloody victim.

You also have the prime minister respond within a day with new firearm legislation.

The whole thing is orchestrated, but with real victims and jews and others that were martyred against their will.

And the only thing to come out of it was Our Muslim Hero, Ahmed. A syrian cop who conveniently doesnt know how to reload a firearm.

The event was a single advertised community event, surely with permits from the local government, no different than a Christmas tree lighting in the town square. Do you think that tree lightings or caroling should also only happen in private backyards?

I don't know if you're being deliberately obtuse or are tragically just a natural-born mongoloid, but it was very obviously targeted at the Jewish community, and their--again--advertised community event. Every single identified deceased victim is Jewish, with the one exception being Peter Meagher, a photographer hired specifically for the Chanukkah event.

New victims now identified:

Peter Meagher.png

The aforementioned Peter Meagher, a retired police officer who took to freelance photography in retirement.

Marika Pogany.png

Marika Pogany, 82. A long-time Meals-on-Wheels volunteer, and apparently a close personal friend of Zuzana Čaputová, former president of Slovakia.

Tibor Weitzen.png

Tibor Weitzen, 78-year-old great-grandfather. Ironically, he'd emigrated from Israel to Australia in the 80's, which is presumably exactly what these "Free Palestine" attackers wanted.

The 10-year-old victim, Matilda Britvan (I mistakenly called her Matilda Poltavchenko earlier), was apparently shot in front of her six-year-old sister, who is now understandably traumatized.

Anyways, these two losers go on a shooting rampage and manage to basically kill two rabbis, several elderly people, and a literal child. How brave and noble of them.
