If Ed wasn't there he wouldn't even acknowledge it. He'd eat food until it ran out, sit around in his own diarrhea, and just be there in the cold darkness when the utilities eventually ran out. Maybe he'd drape a blanket over her corpse to try and deny it's existence like a child would.
