This jumped out at me, cDc are old school hacker royalty - I imagine you can't say or speculate much but broadly would you say the cDc largely collaborates with groups like Honeycomb or is Benfey an unusual outlier?

Charity Majors, Chris Toshok, Max Bulter and Alex Graveley all are/were members of Hungry Programmers.
Hungry Programmers, a hacking group, is most notorious for having a hacker house in San Francisco where one of their members lived named Max Bulter aka Max Vision aka Iceman.
This information mostly comes from a book called King Pin by Kevin Poulsen – yes that Kevin Poulson that was given the early scoop of the Chelsea Manning getting ratted out by Adrian Lamo. He later got into a flamewar about it with Glenn Greenwald in the years leading up to Snowden.
Charity Majors started dating Chris Toshok when she was 16-17 and Toshok was 27. He took her across state lines which is felony sex trafficking of a minor.
Majors later dated Max Butler when of age. Charity, Toshok and Bulter all lived in a house together.
Butler started out his career as a hacker for the FBI, but then he was patsied after the FBI requested he hack into a bunch of other US government agencies and he got caught. When he got out of prison he became a credit card hacker.
How I came to know LFJ
Toshok was a Honeycomb employee in recent years and is the reason I spoke with Charity Majors and Liz Fong-Jones. I asked him to intervene because I was afraid of Alex Graveley's threats and he told me he doesn't care if Alex threatens women he dates and it's something he's been doing for years.
Toshok is close friend and former roommate of Alex Graveley, who interestingly shared a house with Toshok and Jacob Appelbaum of Wikileaks and cDc (kicked out in 2016 for being a sex predator).
I reached out to Charity about it and she threatened to make me "unemployable" if I didn't shut up about the abuse. I later learned that Graveley's BFF Nat Friedman had given Charity $500k in Azure Cloud credits while he was at Microsoft to start Honeycomb.
I messaged LFJ about this conversation because they looked active in woke spaces, but they ended up just taunting me and accusing me of lying and saying I wasn't owed social accountability when that's literally her entire persona when it applies to her.

What you need to understand here is that the cDc has a lot of overlap with the intelligence community. It's run by a bunch of
DARPA, State Department, CIA, NSA, and JSOC folks. I don't have time to list all of them, but it's a lot. They've testified before congress and directly collaborated with the Clinton White House. They've worked for JSOC in Iraq supporting the war.
Like even if you go back to the Anonymous hack of HBGary that's on Wikileaks, who was HBGary courting as a journalist because the FBI liked him? Joseph Menn who is wrote the book on cDc.
Why Julian Assange and Jacob Appelbaum were in cDc is beyond me. Lots of people are suspicious of those too being government spooks as well.
As far as them starting tech companies? Sure, there's quite a few out there.
