This guy is a badass DRAGON MASTER. He's got a hardcore as fuck title, and the attitude to back it up, too. He isn't afraid of hyperbeaming a motherfucker to get shit done. I dunno what it is but Ken’s old art in the Gen 1 & 2 was so peak: I liked the blocky shoes everyone wore and the watercolors used.

The manga started having later Elite Fours in Gen 3 onward be the games, but the Gen 1 Elite Four wasn't an official group of the best trainers in the region but instead a terrorist group. Manga Lance was basically a more extreme N before N existed. He had special power to communicate with Pokemon, so he felt extra hatred over Pokemon who were abused or harmed by human pollution, so he and the other Elite Four tried to use Lugia plus a machine to send out a shockwave that would wipe out humans in at least the Kanto region.

He popped up again in the GSC arc where's too burnt out from getting defeated by Yellow (manga OC who has the same powers as him) to try doing evil stuff again, so he's just hiding in the Whirl Islands where he communicates with Silver to give him some training and directions in fighting against the revived Team Rocket. Then he later appeared in the HGSS arc which is loosely based on the Sinjoh Ruins event in that game, where the Rocket admins attacked him but he escaped and later shows up with a couple other prior villains to help the heroes. Lance's Dragonite is the one beat down an enraged Palkia until it calmed down. There's a kind of funny bit at the end where he reveals that the Rocket admin Petrel was able to get the drop on Lance because he disguised himself as Yellow and seeing her face basically activated Lance's PTSD.

I did my homework a while back and picked the following, feel free to confirm or warn against certain ROMs:
  • Team Rocket Edition: an interesting concept that GF refused to follow except for that ONE Gameboy game that was exclusive to Japan iirc.
  • Sors: a recommendation from a colleague, don’t know much about it.
  • Clovers: why not?
  • Unbound: everyone and their mothers said this is a must play. I heard there is “New Game Plus” exclusive though.
  • Odyssey: same as above especially if you familiar with EO games.
  • Reborn: maybe I completely misunderstood the lore but this ROM was in a fierce rivalry with Rejuvenation people for some reason (?), the latter is not held in high regard by many players.

I'd go with Pokemon Unbound for the best custom experience and Emerald 386 for the best purist experience in the GBA era. Pokemon Compass is a really good time if you can emulate a Switch at full speed. Odyssey and Emerald Rogue are cool gimmicks for a breath of fresh air. Reborn has extremely bad and gay grimdark writing and I cringed so hard I never made it through the intro.

that Chad first Sandshrew card
  • can be dirt cheap*
  • energy efficient
  • stalls opponents

* (you know because Ground type in vidya)

This shit is too hard even with spoilers. I did the first part just fine but the moving boulders in a slippery ice is too punishing

Potentially hot rom hack take: Fakemon are an immediate turnoff for me unless they’re used very sparingly as a rare anomaly (like “legendary-only” rare). The only exception I’ve made is for Clover since that’s a shitpost hack anyway, but it has a lot of shitty mons, too (both figuratively and literally).
