Cruz wants a seat on the Supreme Court so he can pontificate for life without having to placate voters. Challenging the Golden Boy for the 28 nomination is a good way to cut to the front of that line.
I've always heard that Cruz rejected Supreme Court appointment cause he thinks he can be President. He makes a solid seat in Texas vulnerable, consistently underperforming the rest of the state, and he thinks he can be President.

That was never stated. I think before even that, but definitely after we knew he was caught with lots of CP. I think it was even explicitly stated that it was downloaded. He's never been charged with the production of CP.
Epstein liked to bang High School aged girls. Nothing more than that had ever been charged. He would hire them and then coerce them into sex. He would get them, and Maxwell, to lure in more victims for himself. None of the victims have ever accused anyone else of sex (except maybe Prince Andrew, I remember it but I can never find a source). Now did he share these girls with close associates?
Probably. Prince Andrew? Most likely. Clinton? Possibly. Trump? Very likely not. The other of hundreds of rich and famous he associated with? It's a very large maybe.
But there have never been any legal or victim alleged recording and blackmail activities. That is pure tinfoil entirely sourced from Senator Armstrong.
My theory is some advisor finally got Trump to crack and reveal clean copies of the Epstein files and aides found there was nothing there. Trump is named dropped in the files, likely multiple times and possibly had some relationship with Epstein but is sperging out over it more than he needs to. Its creating a distraction and every time Trump crashes out about it, it invites more questions than answers when he needs to pivot to the domestic issues.
I think it's an Uno Reverse Card, now that the emails are coming out and looking worse and worse for the Dems, and getting them to start trying to block it.
Also the rumor mill for a while had been that Trump wanted to keep them under wraps to cover for other people not himself.
And, covering is a loaded term here. It's becoming very apparent now that lots of people still associated with Epstein after his sex crimes. Most of the girls were legal in most of the world and half of the States. The rich and powerful didn't really care about him banging teenagers, and he still had a lot of connections they used. But the niggercattle narrative on him has been excessively poisoned to he prostituted prepubescent children, and anyone having contact with him post conviction will essentially always have the pedophile implication haunting them forever. I would guess 99% of the people that interacted with him did so because he was very well connected. I wouldn't be surprised if a majority even knew about his State level, no real jail time, conviction(at least pre2016 when it went mainstream). So, there is a case to be made of not forever branding a large group of people as pedophiles, over crimes that would of been legal in most of Europe.
