Eugenia’s anorexia meant she would also stay home and dependent which also meant keeping mom company while she cared for an autistic man.

Anorexia would also be one of the most acceptable and normal mental illnesses among the Greenwich crowd.

On Eugenia’s side of things it made mom pay attention to her for a disability just like she did fat boy. It also allowed her to remain a forever-14 year old which I think is her primary motivator. If Eugenia “got well” she’d be expected to behave like a grown woman, not live at home and be cared for like a child.

She went to a middle school in Greenwich which is where the bullying stories originated from. I’m not sure about high school because she opted for some virtual online school as a teen.

There's a boarding/day school in Cos Cob for profoundly autistic kids, that may have been a draw in staying. It does feel very nouveau riche, doesn't it? Or just...wasteful. I guess theoretically she could have gone to GA for middle school (did she mention it was all girls?). Mom and Dad also don't strike me as volunteer/philanthropy types (ha), so no galas fundraising for the YWCA shelter or the Congregational Church food drive.

Feels like spending $100k annually in property taxes (on top of the $5m house itself) to sit in the woods and rot, doesn't it? Just...nutso.

We can assume neither does their own laundry, which isn't too surprising, they probably have "help" for that. But if she's never expected anything adult-y from them I'd bet neither can even make toast. Which, if my guess is correct, raises a whole new set of questions. Including: do parents realize what a disservice they're doing when they do everything for their teenagers?
