Kojima is really getting the high by sniffing his own farts with the Death Stranding IP. If they ever announce a third one, I don't think I'll be interested in it if they don't change the formula.

Death Stranding 2 has so many identical story beats to the first game. "Oh you just connected the whole map? Good, now run back to the first area because yadda yadda end of the world / final boss / etc."

I preferred him when he wasn't neck deep in the Hollywood culture as he is today.

Reviving the thread to say there is 2 upcoming animes featuring black MCs:
The first one looks like "my OC who is basically Higgs but black," which could work if they animate rad fights and you like rad fights.

The second one looks like teenagers from a fun future, the kind that might be a dystopia but at least has malls. That is such a different color palette from the game.

Legit thought this was gonna be some lesbian thing but apparently the one on the right is a man... I think.

Blurb:
Announced in front of a packed auditorium at the Disney+ Originals Preview at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort, executive producer of the series’ Hideo Kojima, and the series’ director Takayuki Sano, appeared on stage to announce that their first ever partnership with a global streaming platform will be with Disney+ and that the latest expansion of the DEATH STRANDING franchise will be an animated series. New concept art created by Ilya Kuvshinov, who served as character designer for “Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045”, was also revealed along with the DEATH STRANDING ISOLATIONS (Working Title) announcement.

Set in the world of DEATH STRANDING, DEATH STRANDING ISOLATIONS (Working Title) will tell a completely new story, separate from that of the video games. The upcoming series will follow a young man and woman as they set out on an adventure. Told through a traditional, hand-drawn 2D animation style, some of Japan’s top animation talent at E&H production are currently working to bring the series to life.

Once, there was an explosion...

Lonesome souls of the dead manifest in the physical world, reaching in search of the living. However, the connection they create triggers a massive explosion that eradicates anything of this world—a phenomenon referred to as the Death Stranding. These events wipe out nations as well as civilization itself. People who remain are now isolated, withdrawn, and without connections. As humanity stands at the brink a legendary porter set out to transport both cargo and wishes of its senders, reconnecting people in the hope that they might still be saved.

Based on the video game born out of the mind of legendary game creator, Hideo Kojima, comes a new animation series headed by Japan’s up-and-coming animation studio E&H production. Helmed by E&H’s Takayuki Sano, it follows in the footsteps of the original in spirit and ideas and depict the world of Death Stranding through a bold and yet subtle touch and top-class hand-drawn animation.

Somewhere in North America, just as Sam Bridges walks through the continent in order to save America, the someones are also trying to deal with their isolation in their own way. An old man trying to realize salvation through ways outside of the connection advocated by Bridges. A female warrior who tries to kickstart a world of constant fighting. A boy with a grudge against Bridges. A girl who embraces loneliness.

On the precipice of the end of humanity and the world, their fates and hopes converge, as another story of Death Stranding begins.

And now, comes another explosion...
Looks like it's meant to be actually canon to the whole thing, instead of whatever mosquito is supposed to be. Too early to speculate any further, unfortunately.

Also
Finished it a while ago but I've been thinking about it a little more lately. For a game about making connections, it's ironic that you never get the chance to meet up with any of the characters outside the story. Can't call them on the codec or meet them in person, and most characters beyond Deadman and Die-Hardman (coincidentally, the only two I really cared about) get one or two token meetings before they're shoved back in the box and forgotten about. In those 10-20 minutes you're somehow expected to care about them and their story, meanwhile I spent that much time just getting there, and even longer fucking around doing other shit. So the story ends up being me doing whatever Hardman tells you to do, meanwhile Deadman is like your Otacon or whatever—a partner-in-crime for you personal and often shady exploits. Fragile is there, sometimes, and you gotta keep BB happy.

Mama's death came so out of nowhere for me. She seemed perfectly fine as we made it to Mountain Knot. Same for Sam calling BB Lou—Deadman didn't even stop to comment on it. I must have missed something in both cases. Actually, at the time I wondered if the problem was that Kojima didn't wanna do the dirty work of introducing this world and these characters and making us like them—proper, show-don't-tell type stuff—when it was really needed. Writing like he has an entire franchise at his back, with characters and stakes people already know and care about, or something. So you end up with stuff like this.

"Make us whole again" was really fucking funny. Actually, that would make for an interesting spinoff story. The random unsung heroes who take it upon themselves to unfuck the chiral network while sam is in the beach. They probably won't do it tho (:_(

Ya REALLY Bumbled DS2, Kojima, I could have looked at the draft for the plot and told you that!
Did you think that ending resonated with anyone like the first? WRONGO.

* Rather than a mysterious setting it becomes surrounded with lore.
And instead of slowly revealing what's actually going on like the first game, you go questing for the entire game while random unexplained nonsense happens and the "here's what's actually going on" dump happens all at once at the end.

There isn't even any real twist since they were too cowardly to fake the baby surviving.

Good because I'm tired of being the only one around here with the bigger hate boner.

A HIDEO KOJIMA FAILURE
I enjoyed the gameplay, like it felt more like a game than whatever experience he tried to convey with the first title, but by making it more of a game he completely lost the sauce he wanted to give to the players with all that weird and supernatural stuff.

I prefer Higgs in the second compared to the first, this game is an okay movie to watch, it's spectacular but it lacks the substance and retreads identical beats from the first game.
Norman Reedus is a wooden cardboard of an actor, he can't act for shit and in the second game he had so many scenes centered around his character and Lou, and he's the least expressive motherfucker on Earth.

Also I can't fucking stand Kojima going so mainstream on all his social media. The oversaturation of his online presence leads to dogshit.
