Remember they mostly do this for asspats, not because it actually accomplishes anything. I sympathize with progressives/liberals on the health care issue, honestly, but I also don't really think there's a way to "do it right" as you put it. The problem is that people, naturally, value their own lives more than anything other than the lives of their children, if they have them. And thus would spend unlimited money and resources to save their own lives, unlimited money and resources that do not exist, btw.
