The eastern side of Essos is portrayed as primitive but also decadent. The Free Cities have commerce and a developed society that's also growing at their own pace like Westeros.

But all that's close to Slavers' Bay and similar is full of primitive nuts or new-rich types. The ones with money just buy people because of the status, not the practicality. At least the Unsullied have some training.
Free Cities are Med countries/city states and Qarth is Constantinople

Don't worry, he may not be workin' on it but he at least has the time to be making excuses.
"Yes, I do love Winds of Winter. I'm still interested in it, I'm still working on it, but honestly, I love these other things, too,"

Because nothing says "hard at work and dedicated to finishing the job" than: "I'm interested in it, BUT..."

I'm fine with him having other interests, but at some point he either has to shit or get off the pot. Either get those books done and off your plate or tell the fanbase you're sorry but you aren't finishing your story after all. This dragging it out to, what is up to 15 years or so, and giving lame excuse after lame excuse is just old.

I actually read some of his other things, his Wild Cards superhero books. They were dumb but enjoyable. I wouldn't have bought them, but my library had them.

I wonder if anyone asked him why he was at a convention fielding this question rather than attending to one of his various passion projects. That would take the wind out of his sails.

I'm sure someone did something similar at a different convention a few months ago where he was busy furiously tipping his fedora at Brian Sanderson.

I'm sure he'd blather on about talking to fans is one of his passion projects or some such thing.

It's a combination of the TV show ending being poorly received (the book endings aren't going to change he's not that good a writer) and the fact that he clearly ran out of Glen Cook books to rip off. Now that Glen Cook is back in the game, we may start to see some forward movement (they'll still be published posthumously so he doesn't have to deal with the criticism).

I can appreciate someone putting in the effort to make a backdrop for their videos, the guys who just set up a camera and all we see behind them is a bare wall or their unmade bed is boring, but the whole 'nerd shrine' thing is tacky as hell. It's worse than the pseudo intellectuals who record infront of a bookcase.

Free Cities are Med countries/city states and Qarth is Constantinople
Old Valyria is obviously ancient Rome

Free Cities are Italian city-states

Volantis is Constantinople

Slaver's Bay is Islamworld (shhhhhhhhhh don't tell anyone it will upset George to remind him that he decided 30 years ago to portray his Islam expy in a very not-woke way)

The Shadow is Stygia from Conan, Asshai is Khemi/Luxur and Stygia (REAL SUBTLE GEORGE) is Acheron+the dead nameless city of Stygia mentioned in The Hour of the Dragon, +the nameless city of Arabia Deserta+Yian-Ho from Lovecraft (Yian-Ho originally from Robert Lumley)

The Lands of Always Winter is Kadath in the Cold Waste from Lovecraft

Qarth is a gateway to the Far East like Constantinople but that's about it as far as similarities between the two

It feels even faker than the bookcase, because you still can buy books to use for future reference and you don't need to read them all at the moment. But people being fans of so many things is unlikely. I like Star Wars, but not enough to buy toys and while I like comics, I don't like all of them. Those toys there are just props.

They went to estate sales for dead autistic trannies and cleaned out all the action figures. If they had a few you'd think "wow they must really like Gunbuster to have that action figure" but when they have every IP over the past 50 years, you know they just grabbed whatever plastic had the lowest price tag on it.
