But beneath that I hear increasing numbers of people wish we had our own version of Trump.
Ideally it is primarily a unit of exchange. While if you wanted to store value, you would want to diversify the different assets. Stocks, Crypto, Gold, guns, food, land, friends, and yes cash.
We physically can't deport all of them at this point, we're going to have to also rely on self-deportations, which I think will pick up if the Trump administration keeps the pressure on. There's a huge networking component to illegal immigrant communties. If illegal immigrant enclaves start shrinking even just a little due to deportations, or at least start to sweat because there's a constant drumbeat about deportations for the next three years, combined with the Trump admin (hopefully) cutting off gibs to illegals, I think we'll see more of them, especially newer arrivals from Latin American countries, cut their losses and go home.
Nobody has the solution. Economics as a science is at the leeches and bleeding stages that medical science was at a couple hundred years ago. I just think history tells us that what Nixon was trying to do made sense until about 5 minutes after it was done and human greed took over bastardizing the whole thing. IMO our problems stem more from unchecked financial fraud than monetary policy. It's all irrelevant if you don't have an honest market. Evil Eddie rigging shit, etc.

People don’t actually want or need an honest or effective government they want and need a government that comports to their ways and character. If it is evil they will they should choose it freely. No polity deserves to exist! It has to emanate from the people even if it is a terrible mistake

That's deportation and self-deportation rates now. ICE and CBP are hiring and training more staff, which will allow them to increase the rate at which they remove illegals. Not only that, but the administration is making significant legal gains and removing benefits for illegals, including both NGO funding and state and federal funding. It's becoming a worse place to be for illegals, which makes it more likely that they will leave. In the current state of affairs, it's already more difficult for them to work or even leave home without the risk of being arrested. We're also literally paying them to fuck off. On top of that, President Trump is resolving international conflicts and removing dictators so that there's less excuse for them to have refugee status and more reason for them to go home. I can't see him losing at this point either. Sliva only had a chance in a 3 way race (as does any Republican in NYC at this point due to demographics). Cuomo is still too hated, and Sliwa spent most of his time in the debates tearing him down. Sliwa, having been a media figure since the 70s and having done radio had some great zingers and a Trump/Vance-like way of saying meme shittalking, but Trump not endorsing him was a death sentence.
Realistically, it will take 2 presidential terms to clear out the backlog of illegals and that includes the anchor spiclets/chinks/muzzies, etc. The big danger would be if a democrat somehow gets elected in 2028, but fortunately the democrat brand is severely damaged right now. Just as damaging would be the election of a RINO, but those traitors are being unmasked and publicly harangued. Perhaps JD Vance wins the election. Will he be as committed as Trump about enforcing immigration laws?
