Ben Shapiro says he's been there, it's just office space. And when they have people coming they have to put tents out. And there's DOD and other involvements with security, and probably a lot of bunker level upgrades too.

Tldw: only 1 in 30 English Literature Bachelors at a state school coulds read and understand a paragraph of Charles Dickens. That is including access to a dictionary. Instead of teaching phonics postmodernists pushed schools to teach "Whole language" and short stories or sections from longer works. This means they can't access the different parts of words, like "tele" in television meaning "far". They also couldn't sound out words. They also tend to skip words they don't know instead of looking them up. They also don't have the attention span or ability to read even 300 page novels.

To be entirely fair, Dickens can be a challenging read. However, the fuckwits involved in this had access to a dictionary, the Internet and plenty of time to construct their summaries, and most of them didn't even make it past the SECOND level of literacy. Out of FOUR! Roughly equivalent to an eighth grade reading level.

This has been a problem for decades, so much so, that Children's Television Workshop decided to do an episode of Sesame Street about it. It's weird to think back on now.

I don't remember the episode being particularly pozzed. All the characters, after their initial surprise, were kind, and tried to help the guy out. I vaguely recall him having a thin grasp of reading by the end of the episode because of everyone trying to help him. The idea of illiteracy was still presented as a problem that would cut someone off from being able to fully participate in life without help, and something to be fixed.

Today? Such an episode would probably be preaching about how we mustn't judge someone for not knowing how to read, and how society needs to become more accommodating to the illiterate. Everyone would have been ostensibly nice, but it would have been that saccharine, you-poor-thing, false niceness that lionizes victim hood instead of trying to uplift a person. Everyone would have virtue-signaled about how accommodating they were to the illiterate adult, and put together a grand plan to replace all the street signs that had words with ones that were entirely pictographic. If Big Bird suggested that maybe the grownup should learn how to read, he would be castigated and reminded that not even Oscar the Grouch was that rude.
