An odd trend I've noticed recently is people getting really interested in "vintage" furry culture. Lavafox, a maker who made ugly ass fursuits in the 2010s, is suddenly back in vogue, for example.
The new furs want what the fandom once was without seeming to realize that the early furry fandom would loathe how open these kids are now.

Eh, it still had a lot of zoophiles and such in it back then. Never forget that the zoosadists were all people who were in the sexual side of the fandom for a long time.
It's moreso that, back then, they didn't celebrate what they were doing behind closed doors. Trannies encouraged deviency to be an open secret.

I can't exactly pinpoint when the tranny menace really started to take over furry spaces, but the most definitive moment was when "herm" OCs (essentially an excuse to give an otherwise ordinary female OC a huge cocknballs) were suddenly trans and any mention of it just being a gooner thing/fetish fuel became taboo, same thing with futanari although that still gets used here and there (often with much groaning by troons). That probably was around '15 or '16.

Eh, it still had a lot of zoophiles and such in it back then. Never forget that the zoosadists were all people who were in the sexual side of the fandom for a long time.

They certainly had a small presence, even as far back as the early 2000s. Around 2010, I noticed a small uptick of them in some niche parts of the fandom, but after Trump's first election they just exploded in number.

Some of them were trannies who came to the fandom, but a shocking number of them were people who had been around forever, but suddenly turned tranny.

There was a lot of "egg cracking" going around during that time too. Groups of trannies would find a potential candidate, and then love bomb the person into trooning out too.

No, they are two distinct things with a smallish but significant overlap.

Most zoophiles are not furries, zoophilia has existed for roughly all of human history and the modern zoophile community is focused on sex with animals, not anthropomorphized cartoon characters.

Meanwhile most furries are not zoophiles (strictly speaking) but a decent number are. Research from decades ago found it to be about 14% of furries reported attraction to real animals. I don't know how that number might differ these days, all I can tell you is that it's still definitely present, though kept quieter due to louder condemnation of it by furries on social media. (Some would argue this is a case of "thou doth protest too much," of course.)

the fetish name is/was futa and was I think popularized by transformation porn. What I never understood is how it was like somone flipped a switch and suddenly futa was a slur. There was actually a point where transvestite was allowed but futa was not.

I think in huge amount of cases it boiled down to the fetishes they enjoyed. The trannies coming into the fandom "flipped" a lot of people because it made sense to thier porn addled brain.

yea those ....things are a giant mess I thankfully rarely saw them first hand/they are usually banned on sight. So I focused more on the troonification of the fandom.

I have still seen a lot of guilty or convicted zoophiles still being allowed into conventions or interact with other furries if they don't preach about their sexuality. Their crimes are also swept under the rug alot.
 
Many of the Troons are confused and divided amongst themselves. There are some who just want to look more feminine, others who want to look like macho women complete with boobs and beard, others who like their penis and just want a pair of boobs, then the ones who detest their penis and want it chopped off, some who can afford to, others who can't. The only things they all have in common are they are batshit crazy and look like freaks who belong on the show "Botched".
 
Something strange I've noticed recently is that FurAffinity has started to delete the accounts of known zoophiles.
Blonde Dog, one of the zoosadists, was the first one i saw was gone. Today, I discovered the loud'n'proud zoophile Doberman Pinscher was also deleted.
Seens they're trying to clean up the dregs on there...

Imagine trying to sanitize the reputation of Fur fucking Affinity. You'd be better off expending your effort dismantling the website and starting over completely from scratch. Calling that shit heap a "fixer upper" is an insult to houses that have been burned down to their frame.
