Well, One Piece grows with it's audience for the most part. At least as someone who has been watching it, it definitely gets more inappropriate in both it's humor and violence as time goes by. The East Blue saga is mostly appropriate for a child, but then you get to stuff like Impel Down with BDSM fetishist torturers and much more on-screen deaths. Which makes sense as those who were 10 years old when East Blue was airing would be 20 years old by the time Impel Down happened. Same thing happens to other shonen like Jojo, where it started as a childrens manga and then by the time of Steel Ball Run, it moved to a different magazine targeted towards older audiences.
It's also the fact that somehow, even the most child-friendly arcs of one piece are still more mature than a lot of mainstream western media. That being said, ONLY watching shonen I would still consider manchild behaviour in all regards. Especially as there is far more interesting anime to look for.
I will never understand why leftists are so fixated on children's content. Especially when it comes out of Japan, which had the first adult animated series for television ever made (Lupin III) and generally are one of the rare examples of countries that actually produce high quality animation for an adult audience.
