Right. It would determine whether it was a literal kidnapping in the sense I considered, though it was a kidnapping in the broader in legal sense which I didn't consider. There's a significant difference between literally putting a gun to her head (he should be shot like he was) and asking her to come with him (he should be imprisoned), and I was curious if the former type was true or not.

I think manipulation instead of threats of violence is equally bad. It just means that the perpetrator is smart and therefore more dangerous.
