I used AOL floppies to submit my homework in college.
Fucking based.

C programming
Double-long-based, at a fundamental systems-language level.

My instructor gave me bonus marks for it.
Unfathomably based.

Might I hazard a guess this occurred about 25-30 years ago at a computer science department course taught by a grouchy professor who treats everyone like dogshit in the 100-level courses (teaching pussy languages like Pascal or Javascript) on purpose to filter out the posers but utterly relishes every moment spent with his students in 200+ level courses covering useful languages (like C) or interesting topics (old-school AI, functional programming, etc.)?

I had such a professor in my first college stint, and recall people warning me "oooh when you take CS101 don't take it with [that prof] because he's a fucking asshole." CS101 was Pascal there at the time. Naturally I had to see this for myself, and indeed, he was a vicious prick -- to people who obviously didn't give a shit about CS, who were there for an easy "A", who couldn't follow instructions, who wouldn't listen, who asked stupid questions, etc.

If you asked a legitimate question, demonstrated that you had already tried X, Y and Z and it didn't work, had sought other solutions and resources for guidance, and weren't deliberately wasting his time, he would happily spend 20 minutes of those 150+ other bored students' class time that day carefully exploring the problem with you and stepping through the process of finding and implementing the solution.

When I saw he was teaching CS213 next semester and it was Fortran, I lol'd and pounced on it immediately. For the record, Fortran is a nearly-dead language with very limited utility today, but it was still an informative course not necessarily because of its Fortran content, but because of the general techniques and "ways of thinking" that professor exposed you to. And as far as how he behaved in the 150+ student CS101 class versus the whopping 8 students in CS213? Night and day. It was like going to a dedicated after-class study session except that was actually the class, the "assistant" was god damn Merlin and you were only superficially discussing Fortran while diving deep into useful talks about algorithms, language design, compiler design, all sorts of fun shit.

They don't make professors like that anymore. I miss 'ya, you marvelous, brilliant old crank.

Correction, Win95 came on CDs too, but needed bootable floppys to actually work when installing it on a fresh computer for the first time. The CDs themselves can not boot windows without the floppy.
I didn’t mean solely on floppy, I meant it came on both formats because they overlapped.

Might be because I also do not trust anything ran by humans to just not fuck it all up in the end.
Fucking Christ that hit me harder than anything else posted in this thread has in a long time. Truth hurts like hell, I guess. :(

What's the worst thing you've seen and how brown were the perpetrators/participants?
I drove across a few states a few years back to buy a new car (Prius Prime -- not many are made, fewer still in the trim I wanted, and only one -- the one I bought -- was being sold by a dealer willing to sell it at a good price without tacking on mandatory, non-negotiable "COVID package" bullshit to it ... also yes, the car was absolutely worth it), which necessitated driving through New York (and NYC).

The evening trip north through town was uneventful. The car was acquired (outside NY) equally uneventfully. The return trip though -- heading back through NYC in the daytime, sitting on a freeway (w/the Bronx on both sides, fenced off by very old, weak looking chain linked fencing) -- was entertaining as fuck. Several gunshots, niggers chasing each other in anger (is there any other kind?), yelling nigger noises at each other in anger (is there any other kind?), and naturally no police presence, no (apparent) wounds (because they can't aim for shit), etc. I was on the phone at the time too, testing out that fancy Bluetooth integration in the onboard sound system, so the other party heard the gunshots too. We were laughing our fucking asses off at it.

NYC's a fucking pit. Burn it to the ground and bury the ashes.

To my amusement, despite never stopping to pay the ridiculous tolls on the bridges (in either direction -- there were no toll booths in evidence, so fuck 'em), NYC never came chasing after me for any toll violations.

As we all know, House is a perfect 1:1 reflection of real life.

I fucking lost when Wilson appeared.

Silly young 'uns. The floppy will NEVER die.

How much do you pay in rent? Americans only, please.
1700 for a nice luxury place in Texas, about 700 square feet place has a pool, free garage, package delivery, gym and business center with free printing, and nice appliances. Bougie and comfy and while I’m sure it’s not the best deal in the world it beats the fuck out of south Chicago where I paid 1300 for a 500 sq ft studio in a crumbling building that was slowly collapsing in on itself and full of illegal immigrants

Building manager there was super based, very honest and upright Mexican man, lots of cool stories about when he worked for a university and how he came to hate negroes—he’d fight them until one day they pulled a massive knife on him and he said fuck it I’ll rent rooms to illegals and patch up the tenement

What is it with old people and AOL
JFC having met a good number of modern niggers I cannot imagine entertaining -- even for a moment -- the notion of allowing one to have any access (supervised or not) to my home.

Those slavers had balls, I'll give 'em that. I wouldn't let a nigger anywhere near my house, much less trust one to clean it (without just cleaning it out and selling everything not nailed down).
To be fair every time a slave chimps out they get whipped and strung up
since when was living in nyc the mark of a brokie
Ah yes because deep down you know that your income - on which you can only afford to rent a shoebox with three roommates - would anywhere else on the country get you a nice house with a backyard you can raise your family in
This is a retarded comment. Neither Hillary nor Biden got indicted.

Trump beat his only by performing the unprecedented legal move of becoming the Chief Executive of the United States. Even then if a Dem wins the Presidency while he lives expect all the charges to come back with a vengeance.
It also helped that Trump was squeaky clean. The FBI literally raided Mar-A-Lago and found that everything was in order and was stuff that he was allowed to have and had properly secured - while Biden had boxes in his garage visible from the street

WHAT'S WRONG WITH SUBTITLES
WHY ARE WE ACTING LIKE THESE FUCKS CAN'T READ
IS IT SERIOUSLY FASTER FOR SOME WHORE IN THE CORNER TO PANTOMIME RESPONSES THAN FOR SOMEONE TO TRANSCRIBE THEM
WHY DO WE EVEN BOTHER WITH STERNOGRAPHERS IN COURT WHEN WE COULD JUST HAVE ASL NEGRESS BREAKING IT DOWN AND SAVE ON PAPER
IF GRAMMAR STRANGE YOU NOT USE, INCLUSIVE NOT.

Pam Bondi apparently believes providing "aid" to a person in a house means the 4th amendment need not apply and is trying to do an end-run around the 4th amendment in this case.

Tl;dr cops did a welfare check, said it probably wasn't an emergency, busted down the door anyways, shot the homeowner, then charged him with resisting arrest. Case v. Montana DA 23-0136 (From 9th circuit court of appeals)

Whether, in circumstances where there is an objectively reasonable basis to believe that emergency aid is necessary, the Fourth Amendment invariably requires probable cause as a prerequisite for warrantless entry into a residence

This Court accordingly has never required “probable cause” for an emergency-aid entry. Instead, it has found entries reasonable when officers have an “objectively reasonable basis for believing” that someone in-side is in danger or needs medical help. Brigham City547 U.S. at 406. That standard does not invariably re-quire probable cause. Instead, it allows courts and officers to consider the totality of circumstances, including not only the likelihood of an emergency but also its severity. And the standard’s flexibility reflects the strong governmental interest in acting to preserve life and safety, the relatively limited nature of emergency-aid entries, and the ability of legislatures to address any problems that such entries may pose. There is no sound reason to abandon or undermine that preexisting approach by adopting an inflexible probable-cause standard that will impede first responders from saving lives.

The Framers would not have anticipated, let alone intended, that a government official would invariably need probable cause in order to enter a home to provide emergency aid to someone inside. The abusive practices that were “[t]he driving force behind the adoption of theAmendment,” United States v. Verdugo-Urquidez, 494U.S. 259, 266 (1990), were practices aimed at uncoveringviolations of the law—not at protecting health and safety.

She's also trying to conflate EMS/Fire which don't carry firearms with the police. GO fuck yourself Pam you make the jobs of EMS/FF harder by bluring these lines on purpose. KYS you blond bint bitch.

My guess is that they genuinely don't know about the other alternatives and just stick to what they are familiar with. I had an aunt that was using AOL Mail (the website) on her computer till the day she died some years ago. No one in her side of the family told her about using something else.

I also fixed a computer for a dude in his 60's that was using actual AOL for internet. Apparently nobody told him that the ethernet that was connected to his computer from the router-modem box was the actual internet and he didn't need AOL. Like not even his wife or kids told him about that, and the latter had tablets/laptops of their own. You would think at least ONE of them would have clued him in.

The users on r/JoeRogan hate joe rogan. They hate all of his guests, they hold the exact opposite of his political views. Every post is talking about how he's irresponsible, he's the worst, his guests are stupid, etc. Any comment in support of him gets downvoted into the shitter. Anybody looking at r/JoeRogan would come to the conclusion that this podcast has pissed off all of its fans and is about to die. This has been the state of the subreddit for 5 years minimum.
Pretty much also describes the KF threads for things like Kino Casino, Redbar, etc... there's just no helping some people
