The really bad thing about the shock collars is the dogs can form unintended fear or aggression based associations. They don't have the complex mental faculties to know who's pressing the button or why. Let say you hate the fact your dog barks other dogs they see through the window. You put a shock collar on the dog and start shocking them when they bark at other dogs.

All they know is that when they see another dog in the window they will start feeling intense pain. You might shock them until they shut down and deem it a successful use of a shock collar.

But suddenly you may find your dog is now deathly afraid of other dogs, and either shut down or worse yet attack on sight because the sight of other unfamiliar dogs is associated with intense pain. The shock collar enthusiasts will then use it as excuse to turn the dial to 11 and shock the dog until its a quivering mass. Then they wonder why their dog is a now a basket case, when they completely fucked up their own dog.

You shock the dog when he barks at the mailman. Don't be surprised if he now is deathly afraid of the mailman and will respond with a fight or flight response at the sign of the mailman or any unfamiliar person. You took an animal that may be non aggressive may have a case of barrier frustration, ie he's barking because he can't sniff or greet the mailman and turned him into a biter.

That's why I hate shock collars used in an inappropriate manner.

I am by no means an expert, but like you said, anyone with ANY experience training dogs, not dumping it off to some trainer and then never doing any of the work themselves, would know that what he is doing is fucked.
I have had to use a shocking collar on one of our dogs because it wouldn't learn not to pull, but that is after everything else failed. It learnt not to pull, and we no longer used it. If someone called me out for it, I can explain WHY we used it.

Also, all this fucking cope about. "Shock collars are used to train working dogs or dogs with behavioral issues." That is true, but YOUR PET is not a working dog. Also, does Kaya have any behavioral issues??? If not, then how about teaching it LIKE A NORMAL FUCKING RESPONSIBLE PET owner!.

Yes, that means a lot of work, a lot of hours, and a lot of you correcting bad behavior and rewarding good. By teaching it the proper commands, it will likely be happier than experiencing random vibrations from an unknown source. You ask it to do something, it does the thing, you look happy, and the dog gets happy.
So even if it is only a "vibration" collar, having the dog trained with it, without any interaction except when you're angrily correcting it and neuratically scream at random shit on the internet, can by no means be good for it.

Now, I have not seen most of Hasan's streams, but is there a single instance of him having a nice interaction with his dog? Showing real happiness doing things with the dog? He seems to be taking the training as a chore and a burden.

Maybe its because I haven't owned a dog in forever, but we had a collar for our dog that was tied to the invisible fence, and it would even give off a little noise when he got by the boundary, and it was theoretically supposed to shock him if he tried to run.

Turned out he didn't care and just ran through it, and we never wound up using the collar again. But I feel like that was what people used shock collars for, not using it as a random punishment tool. As I said though, I haven't had a dog in ages, so take this with a grain of salt.

Either way, Hasan sucks.

Really doesn't seem like he's gonna just shake this one off. Seems instead that this is really getting to him to the point where feels he has to address it even when he'd clearly rather just move on.

If this controversy is still going by next Tuesday, more clips keep surfacing, memes keep getting made and shared etc, well that would be pretty remarkable. It would be remarkable because its very rare for any individual issue, even "real" news, to carry on past the 7-day news cycle not just once but twice. Knock on wood and pray that it comes to pass.

This really is a perfect storm. People have mentioned Maldavius Fagtree as an analogous situation and that's pretty spot-on.
