Of course, the person running interference and blaming the faceless brigaders has the gayest pfp. Don't discuss the game on Steam, discuss it in the Discord where you can be bullied for thinking it sucks and has taken too long for what it is.
I hate that style of profile pic so much, Just so many people using the same, ugly, profile pic generator.

From the replies on the steam forums
I saw some shorts of Thor. That drew my attention to the game. He sounded like he knew a lot about game development
Sorry you had to learn the hard way, mate.

More Heartbound/video game sperging, but I just finished playing the Mother/Earthbound series for the first time, and it's clear that most of the inspiration for Heartbound came specifically from Mother 3. Compared to the first two games, Mother 3 is tonally all over the place and the dialogue comes off as leaning into lolsorandomXD more than the other two games. Even the music doesn't seem to make sense all the time, specifically the battle music, but I guess that's because they wanted to keep the music battle mechanics fresh during late game. The sock jokes in the Mother series actually had a purpose toward the story, but in his it just seems like a throwaway reference. Even the dog seems like a throwaway addition. Comparing his game to the series shows he just kind of copied random aspects without understanding what the purpose of including it was.

It's surreal playing these games for the first time after learning about Mald. I understand why everyone copies Mother 3. It's got a decent mixture of depression simulator and quirky lolsorandom, but Heartbound has absolutely none of the charm or decent writing. The jokes have no payoff, the main character is extremely unlikable for no reason, and I found it funny that Mother 3 forces you to do three sequences of "work" type tasks that are not fun gameplay wise (monkey box, clay monsters, dog digging) and Mald also included this with the Blizzard area. It's like he played the game, wrote down general events that happened, copied the main character tropes, and self inserted himself into the story to create his own Mother 3 fanfiction involving his life experiences. I get the impression he didn't even want to add the dog character, but did so just because the other game did. It's hard to tell if he made his mother a villain in the game because of mommy issues or because he wanted to seem like he wasn't just copying the Mother series (which always has a supporting mother figure). I'm going to assume it's mommy issues. It's also incredible how empty he made each section that's not a town. There was always something to do in the series when you weren't in a town. But that's probably just the laziness. He could have at least created some basic RPG battles in between those empty walking sections.

The whole mommy issues thing is kind of sad when looking at how the Mother series handles it. The series really hammers home how important family and friends are, but Heartbound is about feeding your dog trash, defeating your mom as a boss, and having issues getting along with your dad. In addition, all the people you meet are begging for friendship but don't act like real friends no matter what choices you make, and you end up fighting them. Heartbound really speaks to how "othered" Mald probably views himself. I don't want to get too Wikipedia psycho-analyst, but if his game is any indication of how he thinks, that's actually really depressing, especially when comparing to the story of Mother 3, but I guess that's just the narcissism at work. I'd like to believe he doesn't want to finish the game because he doesn't feel that way anymore, but that's likely misplaced optimism considering how he's treated people his entire life.

So I've been playing some Expedition 33 (⏰), and while looking up some parkour content I've come across this little (mana)gem:

Mald goes full fucking DSP here (MalDSP if you will), complete with "why did he suddenly just stopped running, I'm holding the run key", "what is going on with the shittyness of this physics" and "camera didn't turn, very cool". @04:50 someone even asks him "is everything the game's fault", to which he proceeds to claim that "you can't run straight" (you totally can) :story:

The funniest thing is that he goes "this is Only Up!", while this is the easiest of the jumping challenges (not that these are difficult), and yet he still DSPs it. Later in the game there's a "tower" that's pretty much Only Up! but shorter (5'1'' bitch). I'd love to see Mald go through that, but the VODs are kill, and even then I don't think he had enough balls to try.

Clearly jumps off the moving platform too early and immediately has to deflect with "oh so you don't retain momentum from the platform? Very cool". :story:

He literally has a excuse or something to put the blame on, except himself, everytime he dies.

Is it me or does Mald always use backhanded complements like "it's a great game, but it's a shitty 3D platformer"?

I'm not sure, you'd probably have to watch Mald streams (good luck :cryblood:) to figure out if that's a "character trait" or Mald just went "fuck, everyone loves this game, I can't say it's shit, but I can't admit fault either, what do?".

On a completely unrelated note, is there a publicly available LLM that I can feed 4k+ hours worth of transcripts so it can summarize them for me? :story:

Strange times at maldoverse... Looks like his priority shifted to keep engagement instead of milking money. It is supposed to be 500 bits, now looks like its "free"...

What does the 50,000 Heartbounds -icon mean. You have to play Heartbound for 50 thousand minutes?
Those are Twitch channel points, which is 100% free to earn, and you get them by watching Twitch streams. Google says every 5 minutes viewers receive 10 channel points. So every hour is 200 points, 5 hours is 1,000 points, and 250 hours of sitting on Malds stream will net you 50,000 channel points. You can also gamble your points at the streamer's discretion, so some viewers may be able to earn faster if he sets up bets for the viewers.

engagement instead of milking money
Seems like the well is finally drying up:

Also, the total amount of "bits" Mald received is 17460813 (this isn't precise, of course, but a "good enough" approximation, probably). No idea how that'd translate to Freedom Money but there you go.

I think at some point you could redeem (SAAR) ShartBound for 50k "channel points" (???), although I'm pretty sure Mald stopped doing that after the whole "review bombing" fiasco.

174k USD if the conversion rate of 0.01$ are correct... Note that in case of the bits twitch cut's paid by the buyer upfront and not deducted from the streamer end before payout...

If you are a subscriber you get more points per tick. I believe if you are a VIP, too?

Mald is basically persona non grata now right ? Why is he still going to Twitchcon ?
I assume it's so he can throw himself a pity party on Discord, where he paints himself as some sort of misunderstood victim, stoically continuing his important work (cheating at single-player puzzle games instead of working on Shartbound) with all the world against him because he has the strength to persist.
