I don't think it's a therapist's job anymore to give you useful advice or direction. It's more about affirming whatever you feel and making sure you come back for another visit. Also you have to take into account that the therapist Ian sees only gets everything from one perspective: Ian's. If Ian describes his coach as a bully, the therapist has to take that at face value. I think therapy can do good for people who have actual trauma and need help learning how to cope with it, but for people like Ian, it just turns them into deluded, fragile egomaniacs. He just thinks "See, this person with a degree in feelings is telling me my feelings are valid, I'm right and everyone else is always in the wrong!"

What he really would of benefited from is someone kicking him in the balls and telling him to stop always being such a pussy, not some blue haired woman telling him he needs to cry more.

The turn towards introspection in the past odd 100~ years has truly been a detriment for multiple generations of men. So many men that are in therapy just need to experience life outside of their own body. That’s how you get out of your head, it literally means getting active. There is some good to counseling/therapy, but a lot of guys truly just need a kick in the ass to kickstart their life.
