There will always be a segment of society who don't care about politics a great deal and will ultimately end up going along with whoever is in charge or has the most political influence at any given moment.

This isn't a new development either. Consider this, it has been said that in the American Revolution, one-third of the population were Patriots, one-third were Loyalists and the remainder were neutral individuals who wavered between sides depending on who controlled the territory they were in.

The societal whiplash from this is going to be insane, imagine being a parent told by your doctor that your kid NEEDS to transition or you risk having them taken away, or being a girl in middle/high school who isn’t super feminine and doctors allow you to get your breasts removed and are given testosterone to permanently alter your body instead of just being a tomboy.

Neither of them were ever sued for almost a billion dollars. Alex Jones was not fined for "being a dick." He was sued for about $50m-$100m per plaintiff, failed to actually contest the lawsuit in good faith, and therefore lost by default. And that means the payout gets maxed.

If I sue you, saying you owe me $10,000, and you refuse to show up in court, then my voice is the only one that counts. You owe me $10,000. Might be damages piled on top of it. If I sue you for $10 million? Same deal. Default judgments can really fuck you up because by definition, you've lost any ability to contest whether the damages sought are excessive. By refusing to participate, you lost your ability to contest the award or damages, meaning I can purse a RAPEMAXXED quantity. IANAL , @Hey Johnny Bravo can tell you more maybe.

Yeah, that's basically what happened. Alex Jones fucked himself over by playing stupid legal games. I know it's not the popular opinion and people like Alex Jones, but he handled that whole situation very, very poorly. He was also dealing with his divorce at the time, not to mention an upper addiction and his usual raging alcoholism. The guy is entertaining for sure, but he's a fucking lunatic.

You can play games with the opposing lawyer and, in fact, that is a great way to get the upper hand in a case: do everything you can to throw off your opponent. Judges, however, represent the authority of the court and you should never try to play games with them. It's like playing a game of arrest chicken with a cop. Don't be surprised if you get thrown down and cuffed. Doesn't make it right but it could all be avoided if you don't fuck around.
