Patents don't really mean much. They certainly don't need to be feasible per se. You can patent all sorts of unproven bullshit as long as it's novel and you're willing to pay the fees.
Two anecdotes: A guy and his company claim to have developed a novel optical microscope that can somehow resolve down to the angstrom level. Company claims somethingsomething treating light as particles yaddayadda, and cites their patent on the device. The patent, of course, involves none of that, and is frankly nonsense, it claims a superresolution optical microscope but has zero explanation on why it would work, and in reality it simply doesn't work. Guy claims there's proprietary technology involved, but given that he has been trying to peddle his magic tech for decades and yet his tech that outright revolutionizes physics hasn't caught on. What I'm saying is that it's bullshit and the patent means nothing.
I myself once patented a process before it was proven to work. It has been since proven to work, but we filed for the patent before even filing for the research grant simply to protect the idea beforehand. It was completely untested yet the patent was granted. Blue eyes tend to be better at low light levels. Dark eyes are better for sunshine bright places.

I think we have a pretty good idea when the Aborigines arrived in Australia because the mass extinction of Australia's megafauna was almost certainly due to the arrival of humans hunting them to extinction and burning down forests. And fossil records seem to put that at around 46,000 with reasonable accuracy. Unless there have been subsequent waves of settlement and the current Aborigines displaced some earlier form of humanity from there. So that would place any divergence at being not later than around 50,000 years ago.

Genuine question, do you and readers of this thread know about the brain structure from a top-line view?
In my line of work (No PLing) this is given knowledge, as in, we know it as much as a builder knows what a plane is and doesn't describe it to his builder mates whenever he needs one.
I honestly do not mean this to sound condescending I just want to cover the knowledge gap.

For those unaware, in a very rough and ready, quick explanation, there are three parts to Homo Sapiens brains :

Reptilian - the part that keeps us alive and drives our base instincts; Food, Water, Oxygen, Sleep and reproduction.
Mammalian - Controls the autonomic nervous system; fight or flight, heart beat, digestion, breathing, shivers when you're cold, all of the stuff that keeps us alive. It is also responsible for social interaction, vocal/communication systems and more. Think of a dog, it shakes when it shits and wags its tail when it is happy. Our mammalian brain does the same.
Human/cognitive - This section is unique to humans and this drives our conscious thoughts, reasoning, imagination etc. No other known species, past or present, has this part of the brain. It is an evolutionary miracle and how it came to be is completely unknown. This is what makes humans the 'best' animal on the planet.

as an aside and without too much spergery, salesmen and those who use communicative manipulation; body language, tonality, aesthetic etc, to convince you to buy a car, sell your house or put money into a time-share, do so by aiming for your mammalian brain and circumvent the 'security guard' that is the conscious mind. Back to the topic at hand, when I discuss Neanderthals being like dogs, that's because their brains, as complex and intelligent as they were, had the glass ceiling of no human/conscious mind. They could communicate on a base level like chimps, they had hierarchical social structures like other primates but they couldn't ponder, imagine or think ahead (I use that term very, very loosely).

TL;DR - to quote a famous Jew, Yuval Noah Harrari "You couldn't convince a monkey to give you his banana on the promise of receiving 100 bananas in monkey heaven". That's the difference between humans and any other species.
