There's a manufactured 'attack' happening on Steam on a macro level. Not just the recent DDoS, but the change in terms from payment processors, a call to congress to discuss how they're a radicalisation product...I don't know, it seems...iffy.
My best guess would be that Microsoft, staring down the barrel of leaving the gaming hardware market, are looking to buy/destroy Steam so that they can go balls-to-the-wall 3rd party publisher on console and PC. And it wouldn't be the first time that Microsoft did this. Remember the scandal over Nokia and Windows Phone? They have precedent.
