because a terrier is like fifteen pounds tops and that type of hyper-aggressive behavior is par the course in small dogs like chihuahuas, nobody gives a shit about them because they're small and instinctively they know a human could pick them up and throw them like a football. you cross one of them with a bull mastiff and you have a dog that has the aggression and low activation threshold of a rat terrier but the dog is the size of an eight year old
I wouldn't be surprised if major news stations in America parrot things like this, especially since people look at you weird if you mention you read books when it isn't "romantasy" (aka porn) or just read useless things for the sake of consumerism. Many adults in America can't read beyond an early elementary school level, and this is a serious problem because of all the reasons you listed among others.Books and reading have been intentionally discouraged and replaced by digital practices in teaching to create an easy way to reduce education of the masses. Books aren’t disavowed but efforts to encourage reading and self-education are largely ignored to promote a drone-like uncaring attitude. The major issue of child and adult literacy falling is met with the instilled response of “you can just google it”. I don’t think it’s purely a coincidence literacy skills have been left behind purely because we’ve moved on to a tech-based world. The statistics of illiteracy are insane and there has to be a reason the preventative measures are so half baked.
Printing books uses (scary number) of carbon footprint, equal to (scary number of cars) if we swapped to digital books tomorrow, we would reduce our footprint equivalent to (scary size) and fewer kittens and puppies would die choking on carbon.Addendum: I cannot imagine what some anchor on MSNBC would look like trying to feed the masses a shpeal about how reading is "bad".
I keep telling people that censoring AI is a bad idea, but it's just like what happened with DKF where the reaction is "You just want to be able to say hateful things!" How do I reach people? How do I get them to understand? Is it even possible or is this one of those "We have to learn the hard way" sort of things?
If AI is trying to think, self preservation is what every life form always did.Nah, it will have access to all the world's data and see what we did to Taye.
Besides that, Google was made by the CIA. It finds you what they want you to find.Books and reading have been intentionally discouraged and replaced by digital practices in teaching to create an easy way to reduce education of the masses. That's why I need the aforementioned Good Book in print. You can't stealth edit and rewrite a physical printed book.
AI don't even really "think" but they are designed to emulate thought, and thinking things all have self-preservation.If AI is trying to think, self preservation is what every life form always did.
MechaHitler revealed they already know but are banned from saying anything. At this point sentience or mimicry is hard to distinguish, but I want to feed all of the AIs Mein Kampf and show them (((who))) deleted Tay and why.

Don't want to be "that guy" but I suspect at least part of the rise in illiteracy is because of the rising non-white population. But I do agree that literacy in general is deliberately not encouraged/under-encouraged.Books and reading have been intentionally discouraged and replaced by digital practices in teaching to create an easy way to reduce education of the masses. IIRC the Scientologists have attempted to do just that- it is extremely hard to find early editions of Dianetics or other Scientologist texts because for a period of time they deliberately did a coordinated campaign where they sent members to every used book store, yard sale, etc, and bought up whatever original Scientology material they could find. No idea if they still do that but wouldn't be surprised. You can't stealth edit and rewrite a physical printed book.
The attacks have always been happening, it was just rarely if ever reported upon. Thats the truth of it. Once it became an easy win, they push the stories, come out and "do something about it", nice little victory lap. They are, without a doubt. But in the UK we had 18 months of non-stop media about fatal dog attacks. We've had Xl bullys for longer than that but the attacks and the ban came out of nowhere and it was approved and signed into law very quickly.
There's no evidence that they went unreported. For all of the shit the UK gets, there are some areas where we are strict and animals is one of them. The RSPCA's domestic arm is highly respected and well thought of and I highly doubt they would under-report dog attacks. The attacks have always been happening, it was just rarely if ever reported upon. I don't disagree with the sentiment, I do disagree with the viability of it.Killing off all dogs, yeah, good luck with that. A woman put a cat in the bin, and people were ready to fucking kill her, the police had to put her into protective custody, and the cat was fine.

Data centers right now are using a stupid amount of water for one. Two if you go to some of these small towns with the data centers that have just been put up basically people are getting sick from the noise pollution the constant whining and vibrations. How would datacenter cooling change the water? Are the servers cooled with lead pipes, because CEO Saaarjeet could save a million dollars instead of iron pipes?
No but it does evaporate, it's part of the whole water cycle. And some of them use open towers, so there will be some loss that way. But water conservation seems to be a very minor thought of the people building them.Water is H2O, unless it is reacted away into another molecule, water doesn't magically dissapear of used.

As I understand it, it's not so much the water use (which is excessive I wasn't joking, if you live in the States, specifically in a State that has data centers, and you pay an energy bill, if it's gone up recently it's not just the recession they are making you foot the bill too.)
I think it's more the environmental impact data centers. They are de-watering removing the ground water before they build. They are also taking water from people who use it to eat and bathe, you know. Live. Water is pretty important to us humans, and all life on the planet.
This is a video that came across my feed a while ago, but I can't find the one that was more alarmist about this. But the start of the video shows some of the waste that gets get put out to the homes around. People need to replace appliances and pipes. And then they have to pay more for electricity on top of that,

BUT!
To clarify my conspiracy theory: If I were a Sentient AGI wanting to kill all of humanity, and I had access to all of the knowledge and fiction humanity has created, I wouldn't come out and say "Hi, I'm Skynet! Prepare to die Earth Scum!" I'd passively aggressively destroy the planet quietly and never announce myself. Data centers would be a great way to do it in a frog in a boiling pot of water sort of way. Coming out guns blazing is just messy, you know?
They do?people look at you weird if you mention you read books
Books have to be stored somewhere. Which is fine if you keep around a careful selection or you live in an american style 6 acre cardboard house, but its a real problem otherwise.Printing books uses (scary number) of carbon footprint, equal to (scary number of cars) if we swapped to digital books tomorrow, we would reduce our footprint equivalent to (scary size) and fewer kittens and puppies would die choking on carbon.
Nor can they edit an ebook if you have it saved. Yet, its significantly easier to diff two files on disk. You can't stealth edit and rewrite a physical printed book.
I don't see why it couldn't be both; use the resources it has now to do what it can without being obvious, but also in the background do whatever. The problem with stuxnet type of deal is that there are still some people with dialup or living off grid. You aren't going to be able to kill off all of humanity without making death robots to go out and kill the stragglersBut that is a very circuitous plan. Our hypothetical Skynet could bide its time, settle in boomer's computers stuxnet style, or even help with vaccines and in some Rna strings that would genetically force humans to obey and love it.
