AUSTIN, Texas — An Austin man is facing charges after police say he threatened a local news station, then led police on a chase.

According to an affidavit, officers responded to a bomb threat on Sept. 20, at the building at 119 E. 10th St. that houses the Fox 7 Austin studios.

At around 1 p.m., 31-year-old Jahred Bruno walked into the building and said he had planted a bomb on the premises. Police later said they didn't find anything when they searched the scene.

After walking out of the building, Bruno left the scene in a vehicle. A police officer noticed the vehicle from the earlier complaint and tried to execute a traffic stop, but Bruno sped away, causing a pursuit.

Bruno's vehicle was ultimately stopped after a Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) trooper executed a PIT maneuver, disabling the vehicle. Bruno was then removed from the vehicle and arrested.

Bruno is facing charges of terroristic threat and evading arrest with a vehicle, both third-degree felonies.

Austin American-Statesman: Man arrested for FOX 7 bomb threat following police chase (archive)

Austin police searched the FOX 7 news station in downtown Austin Saturday after a man made a bomb threat while leaving the building, according to an arrest affidavit that said "the threat put the entire Fox News staff in fear of serious bodily injury."

No explosives were found at the East 10th Street station, but Jahred Stephen Bruno was arrested for the threat later that day after allegedly leading police on a chase through South Austin, police said in the affidavit. He has been charged with making a terroristic threat with the intent to impair public services and evading arrest, both third-degree felonies. Police found no explosives in the building, which is located at 119 East 10th Street in downtown Austin.

Bruno's bond is set at a combined $20,000, according to jail records, with each charge carrying up to a 10-year year prison sentence.

A 911 caller reported the threat after Bruno, who was carrying a fake snake around his shoulders, reportedly announced he placed a bomb inside the building as he was leaving, the affidavit said. The caller told police that Bruno got into a car and drove away, providing officers with a license plate number.

While police searched the building, officers found Bruno traveling on South Congress Avenue, the affidavit stated. When officers activated their sirens, Bruno allegedly sped off, triggering a police chase. A Texas Department of Public Safety trooper eventually pit maneuvered Bruno, bringing his car to a stop and leading to Bruno's arrest.

This guy was so demented. He commented on my profile here and there. Really extreme all the time and it seemed like a bit but lo and behold it turns out hes just as crazy in reality. I hope everyone is okay, its terrifying when youre in a situation like that. Im glad the police got him without him hurting anyone else.

The internet attracts unstable people looking for kinship and community. Some of them have never been taught how to integrate and belong and so they act like this one. Its becoming more and more common and we will see more of this in the future. It is just the way of things now.
