He might be lying about working at Reddit, but that doesn't necessarily mean there isn't some sort of favorable relationship between the people who moderate that subreddit, and Reddit itself. It seems to "conveniently" survive nuking even when other subreddits get removed for doing the exact same thing as H3 snark (like that Adam McIntyre subreddit, that got ICE on him and was quickly removed after).

Assuming that the judge allows discovery and the guy's info is given to Ethan, Ethan could then propound interrogatories to him and ask "Are you employed by Reddit?" or something similar. If the answer is yes—and he would have to explain this post if the answer is no, because a judge isn't going to like a defendant or his lawyer (especially the lawyer, because lying would be violations of Rule 11, general court rules, etc.) saying "no" despite saying previously that he was—then Reddit may in theory be able to be added as a defendant. I don't know if this would be contributory copyright infringement or vicarious liability for contributory copyright infringement, but the possibility is there. And since this is in the 9th Circuit, there's certainly a lot of law on copyright that would apply. Ethan wouldn't be taking legal shots in the dark.

It's certainly not good for Reddit. Just one more example of how Reddit jannies are fucking retards. Why even include this in your filing? It's like the Chris-chan move of throwing out as much personal shit as possible at once to try and drown out criticism. The problem is, now your words are immortalized in a legal filing and can be used against you. I'm not a legal institutional elitist because I've worked with Yale, Harvard, etc. grads and most of the time they've been shockingly bad at actual lawyering, but it is interesting that the lawyer never attended a law school. California allows an alternative route to licensure, so it's not like she's not a real lawyer or anything. But personally, if I were looking for a lawyer, I wouldn't choose one who never attended law school unless they had a long, proven track record of success. The whole thing just stinks.

The "PII removal software" is something Reddit has long given to various moderators. This isn't an H3 Snark special thing. It's not even a rare thing. I'd say it's at least wide spread enough that they don't just give it to mod teams they view favorably. They just don't want mod teams to get doxed since even unrelated communities are having difficulty in mod recruiting. Until they can get AI to run things years from now, they still need the free human mods.

I don't think RomanPee works for Reddit. Correct me if I am wrong, but he only said it on Reddit and not in any legal filings. His profile doesn't look like a secondary profile of a Reddit Admin either.

Also their policies allow you to take their bar exam after graduating "online schools," which attracts a lot of rejects from around the country who have in the aggregate an abysmally poor passage rate. And despite having a notoriously tough exam, they don't have reciprocity for other states, so you end up with some fly by night types who are filing bullshit pro hac vice all over the country.

I only know one person who did this who had any business having a license and he had a very special use case in that he wanted a law degree so he could represent his own corporation, and was paranoid (because of getting ripped off of IP in the past) and wanted to ensure his current trade secrets were known to him alone.
