Have you tried the Vivaldi Browser ?
Speaking of, with the latest release of 7.6 the Chromium version got bumped up to 140, and whatever Google did nerfed uBO as YT now tends to detect it on page load, blocking the video with the "Ad blOCKErs aRe AgaInst oUr TerMS Of sErViCe" bullshit message and I have to then refresh for it to work properly.

One can hope that Vivaldi will get their built-in adblocker on part with uBO before Google kills off Manifest v2 for good, but that still won't change the fact that other extension I use that rely on Mv2 will also stop working. Fuck Google, and fuck the government of the United States for pussying out from breaking them up. Bunch of spineless corrupt cunts.

Normally YouTube's new features suck, and people complain about them, but I like this new AI summary feature; it's the perfect antidote to AI slop. For example, I habitually open lots of tabs and wanted to watch the videos instead of closing them all, but so many videos just waste time, like this video about why WWE wrestlers don't look cool anymore. Normally I would have to waste 12 minutes to get to the point, but with the AI summary, it turns out the video basically amounts to a handful of points that could be made in a couple of minutes. AI saved my time that would have been wasted.

Sure, why not replace all of the human from humanity? We are quite "obsolete" it seems.

Radio hosts are known for their engaging, sometimes eccentric, personalities and insightful commentary over all sorts of topics.

Imagine thinking "Yeah, we can AI that away. No problemo."

I hate throw the terms like "late stage capitalism" (since it did sort of become a cheap buzzword) but its difficult to imagine a better situation that describes such event where the powers that be are obssessed with replacing whatever they fucking can with AI (doesnt matter how shitty and inferior the end result is). At this point I dont even think its to save money, it just feels like another demoralization measure.
I disagree. Probably 90 percent of radio stations could be automated, and many already are. At most, all they need human-wise is a prerecorded bumper of the host speaking, but most people don't even want their music interrupted by an annoying DJ talking about the weather or ticket contests. So really, the only part of radio that requires humans is talk radio, and that genre has been fully replaced by podcasts, so the time for AI to "ruin" radio has already happened. and the sky hasn't fallen. Mass corporations and the FCC ruined radio; AI will just dance on its grave.

That thumbnail sickens me. I'm surprised you even gave that video a click, really, one look tells you that it's going to be some kind of slop that will be irritating as hell to listen to.

That's my biggest complaint about YouTube nowadays, honestly, not the BS features they add or the new age-verification nightmare, it's the quality of videos taking a giant nosedive. Nothing is subtle anymore. Nothing can just exist. Everything seems to have that deliberate air of engineering to it, aping a certain video crowd. There's the whole segment of video titles and thumbnails that Mr. Beast pioneered that has become the meta, and then, dear god, the video essay slop. Somehow there's just been some kind of mass psychosis to where everyone's title has to be something like "The (blank) of (blank)" and a lot of the time it's the person's face (usually a complete uggo that's 5 minutes away from trooning out) smack in the middle of the thumbnail.

If it's not that, it's the dramatuber style where there's eye-catching words next to some vaguely evil-coded picture of someone, or some super over-embellished thumbnail: No, I don't wanna click on your fucking video you stupid clickbait fuck, I'm burned out for good on left-coded autismo sperging with the same sentence structure as the other thousands of left-coded autismos. You aren't original or worth a watch at all. I don't need your smarmy little affect constantly breathing down my neck when you "impart information" onto me.

I scrolled with the recommendations sidebar all the way down on a random video of video game music I had on in the background and I got all of these obviously clickbait thumbnails and/or titles just out of the one trip down:

Fucking ridiculous. And I'm not even counting the 5 or 6 other videos that were just synthwave/lo-fi/quirky-core music slop channels, that's another thing that I wish would just go away. Every single set of YouTube recommendations I get is just infested with garbage on garbage on garbage. I add maybe one new subscription every two months, that's how rare me finding anything consistently good on this platform is, and modern YouTube creator practices are the reason why. I get it, you do what you have to to get the most eyeballs, I know how the game is played, but that doesn't mean I have to like it.

Honestly, I just read the title and glanced at the thumbnail of Batista and clicked on it. At second glance, it's obvious AI slop.

That is a ton of words, but I agree YouTube has become worthless slop.

Even leftist BreadTube chicks have fallen off. I still enjoy Chad Chad's content; when I watch her, she is admittedly a guilty pleasure YouTuber, but most other BreadTube sloppers make garbage content. It's not even entertainingly bad; it's just bad, and the Reddit-tier comments make it worse.

Open a private tab on any YouTube video, and it will be 90 percent slop.

This is so true; I have even been suggested several of those YouTube videos. A good question to ask is, "When was the last time you watched a memorable YouTube video? When was the last time you saw a video and thought, 'Wow, that was inspiring or entertaining?'" I can think of movies I enjoyed or songs, but YouTube videos are almost entirely forgettable. 10 years from now, will anybody remember "Insert YouTuber is Bad Episode #420"? Obviously not, but people still remember movies and music or even old-school YouTube videos. I think YouTube's cultural impact as a platform is over. The YouTube of old is dead. YouTube is now a slop factory designed to waste your time; hopefully some other slop platform like TikTok takes over. That is at least honest slop, unlike YouTube, which used to be for real videos.

⏰, if someone uses brave go to "brave shields & content" and scroll until you see Content Filters, then scroll again until you see the blocker lists. Scroll to the bottom of that one until you see brave experimental filters, turn it on and YouTube shouldn't show add's anymore

JDownloader's linkgrabber is still not grabbing Youtube URLs, but I found a workaround. It's not great, so only read below if you're desperate.

Video DownloadHelper for Firefox scans pages for download links and JD's linkgrabber grabs THOSE. However, those are only the links for the video streams. There's no audio.

For the audio, click "details" in the same menu and it will show you the list of all streams associated with the YT video. Double click the long URL after "#0 audio component" and copy it. JD's lingrabber will recognize it.

Now you have to mux video and audio using Avidemux or MKVtoolnix etc.
Update: this doesn't work anymore. JDownloader interprets all links as offline. And FreeTube still hasn't been fixed. The only thing that works right now is updated yt-dlp.

FreeTube still hasn't been fixed.
i guess whatever youtube did this time really fucked things up, almost a week and no freetube update they're usually pretty quick on the updates, grayjay still works like 50% of them time, sometimes it allows the videos to play and sometimes it just doesn't

I keep running yay to see if there's an update. but nope.

At least I've got music and my archive of downloaded yt videos.

I'll point this out, again: how can newpipe / tubular stay on top of things when google make radical changes to yt. But freetube, et. al, shit the bed when it comes to this?

I like this new AI summary feature
Is this a premium feature? I can't see it anywhere in opened videos. I'm using an external service (krisp.ai) for AI summaries of videos, the only flaw it has is that it outputs a text file instead of showing the summary in browser window.

Freetube has been breaking every week ever since they've switched to shaka player. Among other functions it is better at impersonating a legitimate destination app for youtube, but it seems google focuses on detecting and blocking it explicitly. Newpipe iirc have their own stream decoder/extractor/whatever, and it's resilient to changes made by youtube.

Anyway, I wanted to brag a little, since I've just noticed in sponsorblock dashboard that segments I've submitted have saved people over a year of watch time. Couldn't be happier about it, especially since the whole time I was motivated to contributing by spite towards ad peddlers.

guess i spoke to soon, grayjay is struggling too
GrayJay has been patchy for me over the last few days too.

You know the YT jeets are really trying their hardest to do the needful when even GrayJay temporarily stops working. Of all the non-official YT clients, it's been the most consistently reliable one in my experience.
>snooze for an hour
>snooze for a day
so you can't even turn it off, fucking brilliant youtube
I can see this being defeated by some sort of Firefox plugin. I already need 5 plugins to successfully deshittify YT when viewing on desktop (uBlock Origin, BlockTube, Clickbait Remover for YouTube, Return YouTube Dislike, SponsorBlock).

It's all so tiresome.

tbh I got really tired of relying on an increasing amount of external dependencies so I just cut out the middleman and switched to mainly to interacting with youtube on subscriptions via RSS + mpv streaming over TOR/VPN (and invidious in browser when I need to search for something).

of course this is still totally reliant on yt-dlp but yt-dlp is also the least likely (or maybe most depending on who you are) to totally go under if it breaks, and I guess its also reliant on youtube not deciding to arbitrarily kill RSS feeds tomorrow, but so far it works pretty well. No shitty bloated webpage or ads (at least until they start injecting them into the video itself) and no real need for extensions (unless you count mpv scripts as extensions lol), all I really need now is a good external program that can view youtube comments live instead of exporting them on demand. If all of the above still manages to break exactly when I decide I want to watch a video then well fuck me I guess :story:

The retards at YouTube changed the UI again. Once again websites fucking over PC user's by making the icons overly large and removing shit for no reason(Miniplayer button, the "I" shortcut still works). These kinds of visual changes are stuff that would only benefit mobile user's.

Pajeets seem to take a hateful joy in annoying western society in any way they can.

Holy shit. I did the experimental content filtering but it the videos still freezes before the refresh. What a fucking shit show.

Have you guys been recommended one of those God-awful Ai translated videos?
Let's have what seems to be a over-enthusiastic announcer and dub over him with the most dull and emotionless voice. I dread the day youtube will force "native language" ai translations outside US.
