Normally YouTube's new features suck, and people complain about them, but I like this new AI summary feature; it's the perfect antidote to AI slop. For example, I habitually open lots of tabs and wanted to watch the videos instead of closing them all, but so many videos just waste time, like this video about why WWE wrestlers don't look cool anymore. Normally I would have to waste 12 minutes to get to the point, but with the AI summary, it turns out the video basically amounts to a handful of points that could be made in a couple of minutes. AI saved my time that would have been wasted.
That thumbnail sickens me. I'm surprised you even gave that video a click, really, one look tells you that it's going to be some kind of slop that will be irritating as hell to listen to.
That's my biggest complaint about YouTube nowadays, honestly, not the BS features they add or the new age-verification nightmare, it's the quality of videos taking a giant nosedive. Nothing is subtle anymore. Nothing can just exist. Everything seems to have that deliberate air of engineering to it, aping a certain video crowd. There's the whole segment of video titles and thumbnails that Mr. Beast pioneered that has become the meta, and then, dear god, the video essay slop. Somehow there's just been some kind of mass psychosis to where everyone's title has to be something like "The (blank) of (blank)" and a lot of the time it's the person's face (usually a complete uggo that's 5 minutes away from trooning out) smack in the middle of the thumbnail.
If it's not that, it's the dramatuber style where there's eye-catching words next to some vaguely evil-coded picture of someone, or some super over-embellished thumbnail: No, I don't wanna click on your fucking video you stupid clickbait fuck, I'm burned out for good on left-coded autismo sperging with the same sentence structure as the other thousands of left-coded autismos. You aren't original or worth a watch at all. I don't need your smarmy little affect constantly breathing down my neck when you "impart information" onto me.
I scrolled with the recommendations sidebar all the way down on a random video of video game music I had on in the background and I got
all of these obviously clickbait thumbnails and/or titles just out of the one trip down:
Fucking ridiculous. And I'm not even counting the 5 or 6 other videos that were just synthwave/lo-fi/quirky-core music slop channels, that's another thing that I wish would just go away. Every single set of YouTube recommendations I get is just infested with garbage on garbage on garbage. I add maybe one new subscription every two months, that's how rare me finding anything consistently good on this platform is, and modern YouTube creator practices are the reason why. I get it, you do what you have to to get the most eyeballs, I know how the game is played, but that doesn't mean I have to like it.
