I was an iDubbbz fan back in the day. I couldn't even really tell you why at this point, but I was subscribed since about 2015. I rewatched all the old Content Cops a few months ago, and I was kind of shocked how poorly they hold up. Some of the smaller ones about communities or wider issues, like the toy reviews ones, are fine. But the personal ones fall apart when you realize every single one was set off due to a personal slight, just like Ethan's. He even outright admits it in most of them.

Tana especially falls apart because he is HER now. She used to say nigger all the time, then renounced it and started wokescolding people for it. That wasn't good enough for Ian then, but we're supposed to forgive him now for doing the same thing. I was actually a fan of the cuck back in the day and yeah I would agree and go as far as to say that basically all of his videos were like that. They only worked because he was either making a fool of himself and you were laughing at him (Bad Unboxings and his Cancer Crew videos) or he was throwing around insults that people where ok with because they targeted horrible people like Kickstarter scammers and idiot youtubers. I would argue that his old videos are still fun to watch, but it's no high art or anything special really.

The videos were hardly high art or incisive commentary. He was going after big, obvious targets. The thing was a that he had charisma back then. It's hard to explain to someone who wasn't experiencing it at the time, but a well-known YouTuber who would confidently say the obvious thing that everyone else was thinking but were too afraid to say was a breath of fresh air. To put it in terms that I think we can all understand, it would be like if Markiplier made a video tomorrow about trannies being a bunch of deranged perverts. I wouldn't expect any new insight from Markiplier, but it would just be such a cathartic experience even if all he's doing is pulling up pictures of trannies and making faces into the camera.

Now, imagine that there was some dude who kept on showing up in your recommended. All he did was film himself lamely reacting to movies and he was somehow racking up millions of views. You would feel like you were taking crazy pills until one day, out of the blue, some other popular YouTuber makes a video pointing out that he's just stealing content. Not only do you feel vindicated by finally seeing your opinion voiced by someone whose opinion carries weight, but almost instantly you are seeing less of that nigga you hated. It doesn't matter that the YouTuber just made fun of obvious shit, it still felt good.

As for how he became a big YouTuber in the first place? He was charismatic and he made jokes that flowed. He wasn't a laugh riot or anything, but you could put his videos on while you did other stuff and they were good background noise.
