A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

This is a universal problem throughout the West, and you can more or less find example stories everywhere, even a recent-ish example of it happening in the US.


This isn't to belittle or lay shade on America or its people. There is a general understanding that you need to defend yourself from aggression, but it's also competing with a cocktail of circumstances and characteristics in such moments.

It's all well and good to say what ought be done, what a woman should do in such a situation, but what can and will be done in the moment are a whole other set of considerations that depend on a bunch of shit that usually occurs so quickly all the while you're panicking and afraid to think straight.

This is a growing problem with delivery drivers, there's a video on socials (see also posts on mumsnet of delivery drivers just entering womens houses when its a female name on the delivery) of a women collecting an ubereats order and the brown driver is trying to come into the flat for sex (rape) and she's politely trying to rebuff him while trying to close the door. You can tell she's obviously shit scared and wanting him to leave but the comments are full men saying of 'if she was so scared why was she smiling at him and telling him another time'- because if you turn down these rape apes they will go fucking ballistic and there's no one around to save you. It's very common for women to act 'nice' to an aggressive man to diffuse the situation and try to get away (so called 'fawning').
Despite the recent crackdowns on illegal migrant workers for these delivery companies I would not be surprised if there are going to be more and more cases of these crazy goatfuckers harassing women while making deliveries be it uber, amazon, or whatever (see the Dundee girl). They already honour kill their own daughters for not wanting to marry an uncle 30 years older than them or for trying to go to school. You can turn down a white guy and usually escape with your life but refusing bobs and vagene to a brown man at the door is asking to be put in tomorrows curry pot. For all the harping on 'feminist' groups do about how men don't respect women they never want to address the brown societies that treat women as little more than livestock and go fucking mental when a woman says 'no'. There are some women-focused or feminist anti-migrant movements (the 'Pink protests', who are actually protesting today in London) however and it will be interesting to see if they grow as more and more cases unfortunately pop up.

I have not seen anything about the Pink Ladies being government funded no, they are anti-migrant, started during Epping after girls were harassed on the way to school. Stand up to Racism (the counter protesters) are often accused of being bussed in (and there is a SuTR counter protest going on next to the Pink Ladies today) however in this day and age I am never surprised if any pro- or anti- group is just a gov/corporation funded attempt to break up protests.
