Hey Bossman, I like the little arrows that take you to the top and bottom of the page on mobile, would it be possible to float the banner to the top of the screen, or is that function covered more or less by what the arrows do.

i was worried when i read the post about the changes but then i went and checked said changes out for myself and i like it a lot actually. my original fear was that it would be impossible to find specific people now with everything jammed together but then i saw that if you just click the tag they have you can browse by that tag. to anyone who finds these changes bothersome i would suggest just watching the threads you actually care about.

as far as growing the site is concerned i think these changes will help grow the site as it will encourage searching. originally i joined this site to just keep up with chris chan stuff but casual browsing resulted in me finding other interesting people like king cobra and fedsmoker so if you ask me the key to site growth is to allow people ways to find even the most obscure threads here. and see the other non lolcow related sections as well.

Call me an annoying sperg all you want, but the fact that you can get a week-long ban for arguing with people in a thread about politics is absurd
That was a fucking shit show. It wasn't just HHH either, there were a bunch of accounts that seemed to come from nowhere, weren't regular poster, and were absolutely determined to disrupt any sort of information gathering, proper discussion or valuable insight with absolute delusional bait.
I believe the level of reports that day was deliberate, malicious, and designed to disrupt the normal flow of the forum too.
Some of the 108 banned were some of the best info gatherers and OP's in A+H, some were huge retards, but that's the trouble when mod retention for the place is low.

I've noticed that some of the same disruptive posters are shitting up the Michigan Morman Church mass shooting thread today, as well, looking for a fight.
It's intensely frustrating.

There used to be a chat at the top of A+N, and I wonder if repurposing an unused forum chatroom for A+N, only opened in an emergency, when there is a bigger happening, and timing out baitposters and the baited from the thread to chat for a few hours would be helpful.
People might then just use it on their own after a while, whenever it appears. I don't even know if such a thing is possible.

I'd volunteer to be an extra, low level, gruntmod to do emergency modding specifically for bigger news threads like the recent shootings, but I'm restricted to phone posting for a month or so, I don't know if you can wield a broom on a phone. I'd have time to patrol a couple of times a day at normal forum activity, or babysit one thread during a happening. I'd already be there, anyway, lol.

I'm highly familiar with A+N, I read a huge amount there, and I have a lot of patience for it's foibles, know it's rhythms, it's Da Jooos nonsense, know the actual Jews, too, and the Mormons, the man haters, the women haters, the Solzhenitsyn haters and other communists, etc, etc.

A+N does have value, it's how to harness it, and beat that motherfucker into a useful shape, I guess.

It's true. The site has been destroyed by low-effort posting and spergs that got banned from Reddit when they shitcanned all of the conservative subreddits. I guess it's something everyone is aware of but doesn't want to admit: the main groups that post here now are trolling retards that don't contribute anything and just spout the same inciting nonsense that belongs over on Elon's Twitter instead.

You used to log into Kiwifarms and have an interesting thread of people compiling information, personal experiences, stupid stories, or just calling the subject of the thread a miserable faggot. It's not there anymore. It's the same intellectual rot that has happened all over the Internet, the instant gratification of posting, and the dopamine of calling someone an idiot. Every board now is just pages and pages of people posting TDD and talking about Jews. It's funny the first few times? But it's clear that that's the only interest in the site now: new users don't care about the Lolcows, the archiving, the deathfat drama, asking if Yandev ever fucking finished his game yet. It's all just the novelty of being able to call someone a tranny.

Don't really know what to do about it, but that's why it's excruciating to scroll the same threads now that used to be so fascinating and informative and funny. Kiwifarms is not a gossip site anymore. It's not a drama site, or an archiving site. It's just 4chan but less interesting, because at least over there you don't run the risk of getting four thousand replies calling you a newfag for not capitalizing your sentences instead of actually sparking discussion. I also think that the standards for a thread are an issue too, the best threads here started with someone being like 'hey, I think this guy's a freak, can we talk about it?', the same type of thread that would just die in Prospering. Whatever, rate me autistic, it's just a shame.

I think Null finally did it, I'll have to use the watched threads feature now. Before I had my main cows segmented easily into grifter, lolcow, and internet famous but now the 4 or 5 are all in the same lump with hundreds, that's not going to be easy to manually cycle through.

Well, seems like everything is working good now.

Keep on trucking Josh. Keep her running and running smooth lol

I like the new tags but I think the merges will make it harder for newfags to see what the site has to offer. If I were god-king of the website I'd leave Deathfats and Animal Control separate. (It's like food groups: you can get your daily servings of trannies, fatties, and furries). Also I think that time Alice Walker got moved from Beauty Parlor to Deathfats and she went on a huge "I'm not faaaaat" melty was hilarious, changing tags just wouldn't do it justice.

Anyway shouldn't Community Watch threads be moved to Lolcow General, being "topics that are not particular to a single person or encompass a general idea."?

Nobody not familiar with the Kiwi Farms can navigate the fucking bullshit mess of arbitrary distinctions.
I largely agree with the results of this thought process, and I am happy with the changes.

That said, it causes me to wonder why we still have the Beauty Parlor? It might make more sense if every woman lolcow was there, but it seems just as arbitrary that some women lolcows are there and some aren't.

Just going to throw my initial thoughts out here, no insults to Mr. Moon:
If I was making a "Kiwifarms format changes" tier list I'd put this down in C tier at the highest.

If I was a new user coming in here trying to see what the website had, I'd be put off by clicking on lolcows and seeing this miscellaneous puke of people and communities. It's overwhelming, filter options aren't front and center to communicate that that's a feature you're intended to use; yes, people can figure it out, but if growth and encouraging people to read up on topics they might not be familiar with is a concern, then having the system be obtuse or intimidating won't help.

There's also the issue of what's being insinuated to users.
I assume the idea of the site is still lolcow-first vs. being a variety site, but then why would the main exhibit be collapsed like it's a niche feature? The offtopic threads have multiple times the real estate on the front page, and the thunderdome has equally as much as the on topic threads, the US politics thread is almost always at or close to the top of trending...If I'd never seen the old version I'd assume the lolcows were no more significant than any other section of the site.

I know I can't be the only person who often refreshes the front page to see what's going on, if you have fewer on-topic threads present on the front page, then on average fewer people are going to engage with on-topic threads. That's just simple logic.

From a design perspective it seems a bit slicker I guess...but that's at the expense of burying and minimizing the main point of the website, and making it seem less accessible.

It's new though, so maybe I'm being a crying weenie and it'll be fine.

Slight aside:
The fact nobody will ever be able to make the joke about someone who's gaining weight getting sent to the deathfats board is a tragic loss.

Adding onto this problem, Kiwi Farms is now filled with many subcultures of terrible posters, such as newfags (me), terfs, oldfags, and poltards, or A&Hers.
Some of these are not like the others
All of these people are not fun anymore; we don't make the site interesting, and everybody ends up isolating themselves into echo chamber threads, and when we exit our echo chambers, like the manhate thread, the women hate thread, the Donald Trump lolcow thread, or any of the other mini echo chambers on this site, we get banned, myself included. For slapfighting in threads, this further discourages debate and encourages cultural ghettos like the aforementioned echo chamber threads.
Speak for yourself
Kiwi Farms isn't interesting anymore. I now visit this site out of habit instead of genuine interest; the whole novelty of being the free speech site is more of a myth now than a genuine feature. Call me an annoying sperg all you want, but the fact that you can get a week-long ban for arguing with people in a thread about politics is absurd.
You’re an annoying sperg. Nobody is forcing you to use the site. Happenings threads aren’t for excessive politisperging and even then it takes excessive faggotry to get banned (I should know). If you got banned for a week from the Kirk thread you deserved it. Also, you sound brown.

Good move.
I never used the category hierarchy anyway for exactly the reasons you outlined.

I prefer to navigate by clicking on a random “like” from my notifications

The size of the Kiwi Farms has not increased at all since the end of Drop Kiwi Farms.
Take out jeets and AI, and the Internet itself probably has not grown since then, either.

The original intent of categorizing threads was to help facilitate different groups moving to the forum so that the site could grow. They used to be mini-communities inside the forum. The problem is that this doesn't happen anymore.

Considering how the Internet has contracted into a few big sites, I don't think there are smaller distinct groups left out there looking for a new home. There just aren't a lot of actual web sites (relatively speaking) still going; social media ate the world. Also, the rise of non-site platforms like Discord and Telegram lets these groups create ]their own enclaves, then "leave" while staying on the same platform whenever some community-splitting drama occurs.

I don't know that there's anything you could have done to keep the migration flowing inward, besides nuking Discord's data centers.

That's all great but there is still no navigation to the index/home page at the bottom of forums/threads like it use to be, and I still automatically try to find and click it every time I reach the bottom of any page. Do the needful saar. Namaste.
