It's not even vices for me, it's just my vibe will go sour and I can't write for shit. I second guess myself all the time. I've posted in 40k/tabletop about just painting models and not worrying about perfection, but I can't turn that dipshit part of my brain off when it comes to writing. For some reason with writing I MUST BE PERFECT first draft and if I'm not I suck. I've got to break that self-destructive mentality.

That’s funny cause I think the opposite, the highest standards yield the highest quality. Illumination and clarity come only from the pursuit of perfection. Anything less is unfit.

I myself have gotten twenty chapters in, grown disgusted, taken what’s worth preserving and deleting the rest. All for the greater final draft.

story ideas

-An evil wizard dies and it's up to his son to take his mantle, said son is not to keen on being evil.also the son has a harem forward on but he is more interested to his maiden who may or may not be an immortal goddess. also he has to take care of his evil wizard dad totally not based on the indo-bactrian kingdom's colony and take care of sorrounding kingdom and avoid the noble hero's zealous follower's wrath

-world's end and people rebuilt to a medieval level in architectural and societal yet in technology they either find scraps which reused as everyday stuff or medieval weaponry or they find technology so incomprehensible they were just left alone as myth and tales
 
Probably going to temporarily suspend my current long-term project and shart out write another short novel for the express purpose of shitposting it onto this subforum. This will most likely become my 8th novel (two are currently finished but unpublished) once I get around to my usual process of buying a shitty cheap graph paper notebook for my typical handwritten first draft unless I get bored of it halfway through and finish the one I've already started a few months back first.

I've got a similar issue; my main method of dealing with it is, honestly, just grabbing something and going for it. Feel free to just jot down ideas whenever, let them set for a bit, and come back to them; you like them, keep them and develop them further, and toss them out if you don't. No shame in having difficulties in writing; it's taken me an embarrassingly long time to actually figure out what I wanted to really write myself.

I've got a similar vice; I've got a bad habit of trying to focus on what would be "best" for the storyline, even at the cost of it being fun to actually write. That, and I think I might enjoy the storyboarding process a bit too much; I dunno, it's just really fun coming up with writing ideas, you know?

Good luck! I took a break from jotting down a rather large story myself in favor of working on a smaller, "personally fun" story as well; helps take the edge off, you know?
 
I've been struggling to write my book for years. I finally have point A established. An author takes a critical fall and goes from literary golden boy to pariah. Drug addiction and divorce are ruining him, and at his lowest he decides to take a break from everything and restart. Using the alias of his deceased Uncle, he moved to Florida for a retreat where he's isolated in the Everglades, where he'll be forced to write.

Instead he's getting harassed by cryptids and drugs. I wanted to make a novel length version of the scary stories I read on X and forums.


Sorry if this is retarded I'm drunk and rambling.
 
My computer's apparently threatening to kill itself now too so I'll keep this brief;

Read The Sacrifices over the past couple of days. Whether he's dead or alive, at first glance you'd think he was being too optimistic about its "effects" but it seems that he was resigned to its failure and didn't actually know whether I'd even bother sharing it by the time he sent this final version. I'm not emotionally invested in any of this either way.
 
I came up with a zombie infection idea for a story i was writing
An infection inspired by Guts and Blackpowders the blight and @Slimebeast 's Corruptus

Called Heretical Scourge(idk ill come up with something better) Is the Indians and other third world shit holes byproduct into believing that their gods are real but humans a naturally flawed creatures blah blah blah (humans are flawed bs) their belief transformed them into hungry heretical flesh eating zombies

The first account of this infection was recorded during the 1870 when the British finally ended their extermination of the Thuggies in India deeming their practices to be extinct (Finally) .
Getting bit by a zombie does not automatically turn you into a zombie, the thing that kills you is the bacteria and infections
the [Heretical Scourge] reanimates you into a zombie.

It's just an idea (and a by product of being sick of pajeets)

Honestly, I'd read that; given how popular zombie stuff is with some groups, this honestly sounds like a breath of fresh air. Typically I'd avoid basing stuff entirely on pissing on something you don't like - it can lead to burnout and such fairly quickly - but this does sound like a fun idea. I'd give it a read, if anything.

Update on my writing; been making a crapload of progress on storyboarding my plot. Got the character concept lined on out after FAR too long of tossing ideas around - few specifics are still eluding me, but I can work on them down the line, easy. General plot itself is also looking GREAT; it's gotten a lot more sci-fi and speculative fiction than I originally intended, and I like it. Actually writing it is a bit slow, as IRL issues such as my job and health take priority, but I'm chipping away at the story, piece by piece.

In fact, my only real issue right now is... getting a proper prologue written. Yeah, the original intro was good, but the overall plot's gone in a much different direction than I originally intended for it to go, so now I'm wondering if I should change it to something a bit more "fitting". Currently tossing some ideas around when I'm at work, see if I can find/think of anything.

EDIT: After a decent rest, I got an idea for the character concept that, if I can get it to work, will likely end up making the entire plot a good deal easier to write. Given the influences behind it, I'm taking some time to really look at it, but so far it's looking great.

I'm linking a thread I made discussing a video about writing and education in case it's of any interest to those here. I've transcribed some key bits in the first comment if you want an idea of what it's about, but to summarize briefly, "critical literacy" has displaced phonics in even early reading education and the consequences for literacy at all levels, as well as critical thinking, are horrifying.
