I only ever got to act 2 of the second game. Curse my habit of never finishing anything. Perhaps I'll do it right now just for the closure, even though I'm very lukewarm on the series as a whole.

Why on Earth is Kyle the protagonist in the third game? Isn't he extremely, conclusively dead at the end of The Following?
They pretty much retconned it out of existence with the second game.

Can we rename the thread into "Dying Light: The Beast"?

Game released and without Denuvo, very cool techland thank you.
and the game runs really good. The level of gore is impressive.

Runs much better than cooler than Dying Light 2, which I picked up last week and still couldn't bring myself to finish.

So what's the word? Is it looking like a proper dying light sequel or are we going to get another dying light 2 disappointment?
I haven't played a whole lot but it feels closer to 1 than 2, and you get to rip zombie heads off so it seems pretty good so far.

I'm only at the beginning (I have reached the safe house), in terms of gameplay it's closer to the first game. While there are still elements from the second game (like the armor tied to the clothes you loot) they have removed the stamina during the climbing sections. Also Crane has all the skills that he had in the first game unlocked on top of the new stuff.
So far it feels like a proper sequel to Dying Light 1.

Still not sure what perf will fall into for me since the system requirements they posted are sorta all over the place and I can’t play until later tonight, I have a 5950X with 64GB clocked to 3200 and a 7900XT that’s also overclocked and that setup is in a weird position where it’s somehow bouncing between their minimum and high/very high according to the chart.

The night is dark as fuck, literally can't see anything without your flashlight, but all enemies (except biters?) react to your flashlight now, volatiles wandering around will see it so you gotta put it away quick.
Started a chase during the first mission trailing something, had to turn off my light to try and hide, ended up falling to my death because I couldn't see anything.

As for specs I have a 7 7700x CPU (they actually recommend this) and an RTX 4070 (above recommended) and it's running great so far.

Dying Light 1 is like that too (I was replaying it the other day), I think they have updated the lighting in the free upgrade patch they released earlier this year.

As for my PC, I have a Ryzen 7 5800X3D, a RX 6600XT and I'm on Arch.

I haven't played the first in a while but it feels like pitch black outdoors, 2 even with the newer filters they added was like they just added a blue filter at night. I'm glad they made this choice.

How many blacks do we have this time? Last game, set in an alternative Polish city, blacks everywhere, the first character you meet is black, early in the story super hideous black woman. At least download the cracked version if you have to play this slop.
First person you meet is an eastern european white woman.
Then you meet a nog at a church with a "texan" mystery meat woman that acts as their "sheriff"

I am thinking Techland underreported on purpose, I am pulling at least into 120 frames at 1440 ultrawide with HDR and the game autodefaulting to maxed out graphics and XeSS ultra plus.
Also this is the real Dying Light 2, they need to give that previous game a different name because this shit is a straight up proper sequel and way more fun from the start.

>game doesn't use UE5 engine.
>immediately has distinctive art style and fewer performance problems at launch.

This kind of stuff happens and you still have Unreal Faggots coping and saying "b-but it's the artists's fault! the devs didn't learn how to use the engine well!".
No. UE5 is just an objectively worse engine. I want all dev studios to go back to making their own engines. Total epic games death.

Thank you, and Thank you.

So hows the level scaling? is it player lvl based or zone based? Are lower level items/weapons worth keeping or are they quickly outpaced by higher level gear? How is looting? Are there items scattered around or is loot only found in dedicated containers? Is spending time scrounging around rewarding?

Level scaling is zone based, there's only level 1, 6 and a level 11 zone though. I went a while without upgrading my bow to meet my level and when I did the damage difference was noticeable.
Looting is pretty much the same, I got more higher rarity weapons from doing convoys, haven't tried a dark place yet.
There's some items scattered around, like a purple quality one-handed axe I found with a "legendary" quality fire mod pre-installed during a side mission to turn on a power substation.
Scrounging around inside mission buildings has quite a bit of random materials for you, enemies still fairly stingy with what they can drop including good old "nothing"

That's cool. As I said, I'm playing through the second game again right now, and I would be perturbed about enemies having zero reaction to your flashlight if there weren't volatiles absolutely everywhere God damn can you STOP with the fucking volatiles?

(Speaking of Dying Light 2) So far, I stick to my core complaint with the series as a whole. Combat is an awful slog, and too many missions and levels revolve around getting into scraps. In my opinion, melee should be a punishment for failing to effectively use your other options. Early on I discovered how much damage throwing knife headshots do, and so that's how I deal with 90% of enemies now. Almost all upgrade materials immediately get invested in Knifecoin. Like using guns in the first game, I have zero remorse for the deployment of this cheese.

EDIT: Also, I absolutely hate QTE kills as a mechanic. They bring the flow of combat to a complete standstill for several seconds while you are forced to watch the same tedious animations for the thousandth time, and efficient melee combat in this game requires you to use them on almost every enemy. Just let the NPC ragdoll after I hit them; that's plenty satisfying on its own.

Zombies have become grappling masters, they will grab you if you try to fuck around at all, and human enemies are annoyingly just ninjas now, gotta parry them or dodge to get a hit in or they'll pull a Neo impression and leave you with zero stamina.
Guns are a lot more common now too but virals spawn out of the ether en masse if you fart too loudly so they really aren't a super great option unless you're in a sealed off building.

The finishers in DL2 can be fun to do in the early levels, when you are underpowered. When they introduced that feature I was already near the end of the game so I never got the opportunity.

That's what I like in Dying Light 1, they let you have fun with the guns and the explosives but you need to be ready for the virals.
